Thanks man for taking the measurement it makes make feel better about the gsxr swap. The guy I'm getting the gsxr stuff has zx stuff too so I was thinking if the gsxr had a short stem like the R1 was for me on my kz, I would switch gears. I had my buddy who has a 07 gsxr 1000 measure his and it was about 8 inches so pretty much the same as the zx. I hope that info helps you in the future too. I got through a 1/4 of your thread so far and noticed there was interest for a gsxr swap.
I made progress today. I sanded the the left pipe to be a be a bit smoother for aesthetic reasons and then did a brushed finish. I then spent an hour getting the right muffler to sit in the exact same place as left before I tackled the right pipe further.
I have to more pieces of pipe to finish the rear exhaust. Its pretty tricky when your making all kinds of funky turns and a lot of mocking things up 10 times then cutting then mocking 10 times, the tack weld. Because I have all this extra room from chopping the frame the right pipe was actually becoming longer than the left pipe so I was in a good place to route things to be equal.
I think I can get the rear pipe as one piece too which is a bot of feat. I was originally thinking I was going to need to make a slip section but I was trying to avoid the clamp for looks reasons.
Tomorrow I should get the rear pipe done. I also have to pick up a WHOLE bunch of modern goodies for transplant in the afternoon, a list that will make most get excited about.
