I had a timing light question if someone can help. I hooked up a strobe timing light to the left spark plug wire and started the bike up and when i run the bike at idle the LF mark lines up with the timing mark. Is that correct?
yes that means you are near correct timing, however full advance timing is what must be checked now
it is very important that full advance is working and set correctly
you will use the strobe and rev to 3500 rpm or so and adjust the backing plate to set the mark between the full advance marks on the rotor
first have both left and right cylinders timed to the "F" marks at idle
point gaps within range as well
as per the manual
the shop manual there are downloads for it over on hondatwins
I am running the pamco ignition so the only adjustment I have is moving the plate. Don't I just adjust at one point and call it good? If I adjust at 3500 RPm to F then LT will be off, right?
ok with the pamco you must adjust it full advance ONLY for the final
ignore the idle speed setting do not go back and check at idle speed
you cannot change them both with the PAMCO and only full advance matters
the full advance marks are the 2 marks close together to the left of the LF mark
rev the motor up to at least 3500 and check that setting
make it be between the marks then you are done
you dont even need a tach you can watch the marks move as revs increase
all that matters is that you have achieved enough revs for the advance to be done and reached its full setting
untill you verify that full advance setting is correct do not ride the bike
reason is, if for some reason, it is advanced too far , possible damage to the engine can result in pretty short order
