Honda CB360 Cam Chain Tensioner Replacement

Hey, new member here.

I'm replacing the cam chain tensioner in my 1974 CB360 with a Common Motor replacement. I've noticed a few issues with it upon installation and was wondering if anyone here has experience with the Common Motor after marked unit.

Anyway, my issue is with installing the top cap and damper on the new piece. The loops on the slider are slightly larger, and curl backwards, in relation to the stock slider. So, the damper doesn't really sit well on the new slider. In order to fit fully it has to be rotated backwards a bit. Problem with that is then the top cap won't be sitting parallel with the engine case when going to bolt it back down.

For reference I am using a new, correct top cap and damper.

The new top cap cup is shorter on the chain side than the original. When installed the damper sticks out slightly on this side. I trimmed the damper to match the cup and now everything sits much better.

Was wondering what you guys think? Thoughts? Has anyone had a similar issue with the Common Motor tensioner?

Funny thing is I was replacing it because I just picked up this bike used. It had a lot of chain noise above 4k rpm. Not know if it was ever adjusted, or replaced, I figured I'd swap it out to be safe. The stock pieces came out of the motor with virtually no signs of wear. They're so clean I wonder if they have been replaced before. Bike has 10k miles on it.

Thanks for posting this. I saw a part of that bulletin prior, but not the entire thing. I see the replacement damper is slightly different than the original. Which makes sense because the original damper out of my engine doesn't sit on the new slider very well. I may see if I can track down one of the revised dampers.
