I have two Honda CL90's a 68 and 69 I am doing with the help of several teenagers I work with, The plan is to do a mild cafe racer on the one that is sandblasted and put in a 140cc GPX pit bike engine so it should do about 70! The blue one will go back to stock with the exception of a paint job and new wiring. The engine was shot so it was bored and completely gutted and we will be posting pics of the rebuild. I am stoked to finally post on here. Also if anyone has a spare Honda cl90 tank laying around or know how to get out serious dents on a gas tank let me know. Thanks guys and enjoy!

Those sound like fun projects Brother! We used to ride cl's a lot when we were younger!

Welcome. Looks like fun ;D

For the dent, you might like to try a bit of rod with a small rounded 90 bend on the end. Insert it in the filler, and see if you can bump it out? That's the method the "paintless" guys use.

Killer tank BTW. Hope you choose not to paint it?

cheers
ian

oh YES! This must be done.
The kind of development and after market stuff available for the pit bike engine combined with the classic honda rolling chassis, a recipe for fun ;D
Keep posting!

Thats how I do it. I use the mushroomed end of a cold chisel through the filler.

the more and more of these small bikes i see almost make me want to get one and build it up myself.

Kookie,
There are plenty to be had. The bigger bore bikes are getting harder and harder to find. And anyone with a bigger bore CB or KZ want a shitload of money for them. I can't justify spending $2k for a 30-40 year old bike that I plan on molesting.

got the blue bike all broken down, hope to get it to sandblasting this week. I am thinking of doing a marine blue colored frame with a white tank and fenders. The front fender has the chrome rusted out so it should paint up after sandblasting. Waiting on the getting the pit bike engine have to figure out some mounting issues. But now I have to hunt down an obscure bracket for the seat, and finish assembling the blue bikes engine! in the next couple weeks. ill post more pictures soon of progress. I am going to try to make my own clubman bars out of the original handlebars, anyone done this type of conversion. Thanks.

ugh, teenagers. they cant do anything right. theyll work their ass off on it till 3/4 through, then find a girl and do the same to her, having totally lost interest in the bike. ;)

Quick update the engine bottom end it all tied up, blue bike all broken down, just need to get to painting.

how is you "project" coming along by the way?

I painted both frames, one black and one blue, went the junk yard and scored a new rear fender and a sweet straight pipe exhaust for 20 bucks, looked for a cool tank but everything i found didnt fit!
here is a pic of Bill's Boneyard in Salt Lake City.

ahhh, i see a white yamaha mx tank up there... i had an mx100 when i was a kid... that's all.

got the forks rebuilt with new seals and boots, the were rusted but luckly not on the surface that contacts the seal, so i wire wheeled them and cleared them to hopefully prevent rust in the future. I finished painting the frames, one is marine blue and the other is just black you can see it in the background. Now Its just a ton of little things to do, seems like it will take forever sometimes.
