honda rebel?

Coast to Coast
i know all hondas are pretty much the best things ever... but i never really looked at these before..

ive been really into old school choppers lately and definately brat style's builds.

i came across a honda rebel. it looks like with some new bars, maybe redo the tank. take off the seat and replace it with a slimmer solo seat. remove the front fender, and replace that big rear fender with a slimmer smaller fender and youd have yourself a cool little bike. it weighs a good 100 lbs less than my gs550 (when it was stock), and you can get them for pretty cheap.

my question is, should i not molest my cl125? should i get it running and sell it for 100-200 more $ than i bought it for not running and use that towards a rebel to do these mods to?

Answer to you Q: HELL FUCKIN NO, DID YOU BUMP YOU HEAD!

If you want a rebel, go for it, I had one when I was 14-16! Fun little bikes, but there are not a lot of options for it! They are cheap and easy to find, There were something like 14 zillion sold in the states from early 80's to whenever, the body and motor same in all models! Just buy it and build it if you want to, but don't sale the CL for one!

i said to sell the CL, only because my car died last week, remember. and im currently saving up for a new car :/ which sucks.

I hear you on the money deal, just to let you know some of the pros and cons:
Pros:
cheap
parts readily available
can be customed easily and cheaply
Cons
very weak on power (not like other 250cc bikes, I mean weak!)
long wheel base and rake make for poor handling
rear shocks stock, well they leave much to desire
unless you are shorter than 5'7", then you will have to adjust seat, bars, or foot controls or all!
the riding position is a bit odd if you are not used to cruisers (low seat, forward controls)

ah i see. well im just barely 5'8" probably more 5'7.5" so that wouldnt be a problem. as far as power id def ride one first. ill just keep saving. hopefully i can keep my cl too. but im def taking the rebel thing into consideration as another fun bike to have.

when i want power im def reaching for ms 550 cafe. when i dont care and want to just cruise id reach for the cl, or if i got it, the rebel. too bad the name "rebel" is super lame though. haha.

You could look for a rebel 450, It is bigger in every aspect! Frame and all! Suspension is better and motor is beefier! The handling still sucks, but it will get up a hill without you sweating! A little harder to find but still a good many out there and still cheap. Just kept searching them! The rebel code is CMX... so CMX250 or CMX450, you can try that in searches!

ahh ok cool. thanks man!

also i might add in detroit there are NO hills. its all flat, i couldnt believe it when i moved to detroit from pittsburgh, which is the hilly-est place on earth. von knows what im talking about...

there are two rebel 250 builds going on in the bobber section here, have you checked them? Alex (deviant1) is building one with his step-son! Check them out if you haven't!

YA... You would hate riding that CL in Pitt. ;D So many hills...
Man, although I have seen some decent stuff done with the rebels, it seems wrong to get rid of such a nice CL. I dont know though. The rebels are dead nuts reliable, super easy to work with, and parts are cheap. Its a tough call man.

Could be cool: http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/mcy/1629995115.html

The 450 Rebel is like a cult bike. If you ever do come across someone stupid enough to sell one, fall on it while waving cash.

The 250; winky. If I REALLY wanted forward controls, I belive I'd look for a Suzuki Savage.

+1 Good call on both!

Don't listen to Twisted. He's biased. A rebel can be a fine little bobber (I'm building one.). And parts can be found anywhere. I've found that there are lots of options for them. And their origin is the cm250, the motor goes way back. If you're going to build a msall bobber, the rebel is the easiest Honda starting point IMHO.

yeah im pretty much sold on the rebel, just gotta find one and test it out. now all i gotta do is hope i can get a new car AND somehow pull together the scratch for a rebel too. and have it how i want it before its too late in the year. and as far as "fitting" me, im 5'7"-5'8" 140 LBS, so i think ill fit in that good height weight bracket for the bike too. (i can just stand tippy toes in normal shoes on my 550, even with the low profile seat, haha)

i found rone's "lil bob" 250 rebel, and its sweet.

Check out my build thread over in Bob's and Chops. In the first post I posted an inspiration pic that's pretty sweet as well.

With enough imagination any bike can be cool. But a rebel... There just lame

(no disrespect to those that are building one). Your starting off w/ the poindexter of cruzers.

Why not another cb? or a kz or gs? I find it hard to believe that they are anymore expensive than a rebel

I dont know...

My reb cost me a benjie. And because they have that poindexter status, they're cheaper, and you'll get more of that "What the fuck?" reaction... which I like.

good call deviant. if i DIDNT have to buy a new car now, id get a rebel tomorrow. hopefully this next week will be an insanely busy week for tattooing.

I had a 250 Rebel and a 250 Virago (10 years older) and they were not even on the same page as far as power goes. The Virago was faster, longer, and steadier at top speed.

I would avoid a Rebel even though they are damn cheap.

No suggesting to build a "Box Bike" but http://bluecollarbobbers.com sells parts and kits to turn the lowly Rebel into a decent looking little bobber. Worth checking out the place for ideas anyway.
