Hoosier DTT Crew

What's up fellas? I'm Tyler and I live on the west side of Indy, right outside of Speedway. I've got a '74 Honda 7b200. Glad to see some fellow Hoosiers on here! Also, I've helped rebuild and restore a couple old bikes, specifically a '47 Harley Servi-Car that ended up in a couple magazines and calendars, Cheers!

p.s. A couple of my buddies from SSC went on that Brown County ride.

Hey Tyler,
Good to see you on the forums. I'm actually an employee and part-owner of SSC, lol. The other guy is Nick, who's been doing some updates to your cb, yes? We have yet to meet in person, but your bike is pretty sweet! Adam was unable to go since he was cleaning a cl350 head all day.
Cheers,
-B.

Hopefully I get to meet some of you guys sooner than later, as I'm leaving for basic in January. I'm trying to get as much riding in as possible before the weather goes to hell in true Indiana form haha :) even if my bike is still running a bit off...

West side, just outside of speedway. Town called clermont where the drag strip is (can't handle its constant change of names anymore). Only about 20 minutes from Nick's house. I'm over there quite a bit

literally 2 minutes away...ANOTHER place I spend a lot of time. I have a '71 super beetle 8) we should meet up sometime this upcoming week, I could really use some help figuring out this high RPM bog-down that I'm having. I'm at a loss about it

Is it on the beetle??? Sounds like timing right off the bat lol. Does it want to backfire out on the carb???

Compression test, check for spark on both coils, test resistance, adjust valves. Once those are verified, play with carbs. Is it holding charge?

It only has a single, dual-output coil which has great spark. I haven't touched the timing, which Nick suggested could be a bit off and I dont know how to check the compression. (i'm kind of a newb when it comes to the fine-details) yeah, it's still holding charge

Checking the timing would def be a good thing to do. I will leave my compression tester and carb sync tool with Nick when I drop by this weekend. Ill tell him to teach ya how to use/read them the next time you drop by. Should help ya out a bit.

I wouldn't be worried about compression. Sounds like it runs fine but at wide open throttle or surging about 5k. Try choking about halfway and see if it will allow you to go full throttle. I suspect the timing isnt auto advancing the way it should. If you've never adjusted the valves you should prolly do that as well. It will help considerably with popping but shouldn't hold you back from power like you are describing. Cb200's aren't the fastest as well. You may be topped out around 55-65. Jordan's 100 hit 55 downhill then said I'm done! Lol.

They actually claim that the top speed on the 200 his about 80mph. and I've also heard that I should be able to do 60 just fine. But tomorrow when it's not raining i'll take it out and try and ride it with a little bit of choke and see if that helps, I think I've done it before with the not good results but I just woke up and cant remember ::)

The compression test is just to determine whether he has a bad ring or ringland, which will get worse over time. It takes 5 minutes to check both cylinders after the motor is warm so might as well do it. Do as Keith said tho, adjust those valves! You can do a leak down test to determine if you have a tight or hanging valve. *Note* Valves utilizing pads will normally get tighter over time. Valves retaining adjustable eccentric and set screw normally get lose over time.
Timing: Take your points cover off as well as your crank cover. Rotate the crank counterclockwise(towards the front wheel) until you are on compress-to-fire stroke. It will be marked on the crank, "F". A timing light will help tremendously to get this spot-on. You can make one with a spare light and two wires(google). I recommend using one. Measure your points gap with a feeler gauge. It should be around .012-.014. Adjust if needed. Rotate the crank one full turn until you come to "F" again SLOWLY.. Watch your other point to see if it opens late or early in relation to "F". Early and your timing is advanced. Late, it is retard.

I wanted to say hey to everyone in Indiana, I am new to riding and this site. I'm in the Bloomington area and hope to get to talk to other cafe riders.
