Driving myself crazy over this. Went to flip the break lever and now I can't get it back on! Basically when I try and push it on it pushes the rod into the drum break. Do I need to stretch the clamp a ton and slide it on without pushing that rod in? Does this make any sense?

Stretched it and got it back on took way too long but now the break is acting funny like there's not very much play at all

You might wana pull the wheel and make sure nothing fell apart in the brake assembly. Better safe than sorry...right?

I agree with the above.

Usually there is an index mark on the brake actuator that puts the arm in the correct position. If its out of position proble is usually internal to the drum.

You really need to have the wheel of to do this. There is nothing holding the brake cam in the shoe plate. It is just pinched between the shoe ends and held with springs. To put the brake arm back on you need to be able to support the brake cam (splines) from the back. if it is acting strange, chances are it's not actuating the shoes properly.

Mad science bitches!

Danggg i was tryin to avoid takin off the whole wheel. i ended up stretching it wide so that it wouldn't push the rod in, then i used a clamp to tighten it back down. Seems to be working fine now, but I can't really tell because I just switched to rearsets so I don't know what's normal/what's bad. I'll take the wheel off just to be safe

Pull the wheel and look at your brakes. It takes five minutes. It's your life, man, don't be fuckin' lazy about brake safety, fer fuck sake! You could have delaminated linings or other problems in there that will make them be inconsistent.

Agree. Also, I'm pretty sure the spline on mine is keyed and will only go on in 1 position. To flip the arm 180 deg I had to take the brake apart and flip the cam.
