How do I remove this?

Been Around the Block
Hey,

I was planning on removing the camshaft sprocket. To do so, the manual says that I need to remove the lockbolt and washer pictured here:

However, this is what I see:

And strangely enough, here is another photo of the same area later in the manual:

What is going on here? Is it like that aluminum bit in the carb which I am suppose to drill out? I've had no luck seeing how this part of the engine comes together - for some reason its not covered in the microfiche for crankshaft, crankcase or engine covers, and there's no other categories I can see for it either.

That's the cam chain tensioner. You need to remove it to get some slack in the cam chain so you can remove the cam / cam sprocket.

You need to take out the bolt on top of the tensioner and replace it with a longer bolt that will screw down on the tensioner pin (so the tensioner pin doesn't fall out into the engine), then unbolt the tensioner mounting bolts and remove the unit (so it looks like the 2nd manual pic)

All this should become clear as to "why" when you do it.

Yeah, I think this is the 'after' picture:

Remove the bolt on top of the tensioner, and replace it with a longer bolt (D in the pic) to hold things in place. Then remove the E bolts and take the apparatus off the cylinders. The lock-bolt and washer shown laying on the engine case is the original after it's been taken out and replaced with D.
