How I mounted my seat.

"How the hell does this thing work!"
Everyone seems to want to know how people are mounting there seats. Hear are some pics of how I did mine. Everything can be found in the hardware section of lowes or menards.

I don't have access to a welder so no rear hoop yet or fancy seat pan. This makeshift seat pan really is quite strong though. YES....it's held on with huge zip ties and a hose clamp. It works for now.
I did the best with what I had.

There is more ties than that now.

Not the battery I will be using, just testing some stuff.

It's so close to being done for the season. Just need to get a real upholstery job done. The yoga mats actually work quite well for the time being.

Hope this gives some ideas to people. The seat mounts really snug. If you push real hard on the seat so the next cotter pin eye shows that is not in the picture it works perfect. The rubber between the seat really takes a lot of vibrations out also.

When you are mounting the seat and putting the pins in to hold it.

Nice Job bike looks great ....If you ever get a welder....Start with the torches there less expensive and you can weld more types of metal....My Mig is Great but now I want a set of torches

Thanks man. That's what I have heard. I'm gonna take some classes next winter. Now for once I might get to ride the damn thing.

Looks great!
Doing the best you can with what you have is what it is all about anyway isn't it?

I by no means am an expert, but before you are dead set on that seat pan you may want to check to see if your rear wheel hits it. My first seat pan I made sits on top of my frame rails and the rear wheel still contacted it under load and riding conditions. I am in the process of making another with a relief area for wheel travel. I see that your seat pan sits below the frame.

One thing that I have seen people do it cut the back up at a 30 degree angle or so to allow for some clearance for the wheel. Unless you are talking about the underside of the seat hitting the tire; then you would need to design for a relief as mentioned.

Did you buy that seat pre made kinda looks like a roc city seat...or did you make it?

Hell man. You did a sweet job with this set up. I just took a closer look at your pictures. It's when people do solid work with limited tools where you can really appreciate the craftsmanship and creativity.

Thank you so much, I have caught quite a motorcycle bug all from staying up to late reading this forum. The seat is a rock city roadster seat with the lip cut off. Working on motorcycles have made me realize two things.

1.) my girlfriend was always right about showering before bed rather then in the morning.
2.) now I understand why my dad would always yell at me when I wouldn't hold the flashlight still when he was fixing something. Ha

Thank god for climbers headlamps!

I have never felt this sort of excitement in something before. Every time I ride or look at it there is always something more I need to do. This can only get better!!

Forgot to add, anytime you are working with rubber, plastics or resins if you want a finished look after cutting them if you touch them up on the grinder or wire wheel it makes them look 100 times better.

not sure where you guys live but FLEA MARKET's Have an Incredible Tool Selection Most places have one every weekend or Sunday maybe not in your town but close by Look Around for these....This is my first year going to them (every weekend) and I have More of A tool collection than I thought i'd ever have If i spend 3 hours at a flea Market with $100 in my pocket i'll be lucky if I can fit in my car with all the tools I get.....Last Weekend I went all In guy wanted $200 for a 25 Gal Porter Cable Compressor (Nice Big Unit) got it for $100 after 3 mins of negotiation.... Can't wait til next week i'm gonna get $100 worth of air tools that if i bought at the store new would cost me probably over $1,000

This is very similar to how I did my seat. Only issue I'm finding with mine is the back end kinda jiggles so I might have to support it by bending some aluminum bar under the backing of the seat cowl.

I just dont want it to bend and crack the paint.

Yeah just rode mine yesterday for the first time with this set up and theres some jiggles in the rear end. Gonna need to fix that. Others than that it's good. Bought a true gel battery to lay down sideways under the seat from DCC. Didn't realize how heavy those dam things are! 10pounds??!!

The heavy ass light doesn't help much.

Good idea on the post. I did a very similar thing with my seat and this really does work great. If your someone with limited resources when it comes to metal fab and welding (LIKE ME), this little work around is quite nice!

Found a way to stiffn up the makeshift seat pan for now. Really simple and a lot stiffer. I'll post a pic once I get back in town.

Where did you get that foam on your seat? That's exactly what I'm looking for for my seat... low profile type stuff.

Yoga Matt. Cut to size and stitch 2 together. Perfect for looks and short rides, I will get mine upholsterd thicker soon though.
