My bike has some aftermarket slip-on mufflers that don't seal for shit where they join the header. Is ther some material or gasket stuff I can use to get this joint leak-proof? Right now it's just metal on metal where it slips together.
I had a similar problem.
My slipon internal diameter was about 1/8 inch larger than the outer diameter of my header pipes. I tried gaskets but had a hell of a time finding one that would fit. My header pipes were also slightly bent and more of an oval shape where they met the slipon. I ended up going to an automotive muffler shop and they made me up a 3" piece of pipe that fit snuggly on the headers and fit tight inside the slipon. Maybe charged me $5. The fit was nice and tight, had to hammer on the 3" muffler fit. Just get a good measurement or bring your pipes to the muffler shop and they will hook you up.
I also put on some high temp (copper) RTV silicone to ensure that I had a tight fit and that no gas was escaping. You can get this stuff at your local auto store.
