I was surfing ebay and saw a hydraulic clutch conversion. Any one ever seen or used one of these? I've been doing some research and haven't been able to find much info on it. Here's a link:
i saw something about this mod over at www.rzrd500.com. seemed like a fairly simple conversion. the hardest part being the push rod that actuates the clutch.
I've also been pondering a hydraulic clutch conversion for my CB350. An easier unit to work with would be a slave unit for a Ducati dry clutch. It works just like a brake caliper, the piston is pushed outwards with hydraulic pressure. It would be feasible to machine/weld a mount on the sprocket cover to mount it.
the slave pushes a rod. the RD guys were just drilling through the case for the mounting bolts and machining a rod of proper length to from the slave to the clutch. they said the only tricky part was getting the rod length correct.
I just got an e-mail back from the seller of the one I listed and he said the rod that sicks out of the slave cylinder pulls not pushes.
I was thinking about getting this to replace my warn clutch cable on my cb350. It looks like it would replace the stock cable with a little modification.
Hell I say jump on it, for 30 bucks that ain't a bad deal, may do that myself if/when my cable ever goes south on my 360. Honda's that small pull on the cable at the actuator end so I bet its just about getting the hole the right diameter at the cover and getting the length right between the actuator and the adjustment. That and hope that hose is long enough. I don't care for the handle but I guess it would work for a while.
I've seen guys over on 2strokeworld.com use Hayabusa M/C's and slaves in the manner that dcmspikes mentioned. And similar in execution as the Sato setup.
That ebay setup looks like it would basically drop right in with very little modification. As it still uses a short cable to actually pull the clutch, just like OEM.
For those of us who are looking for a slave cylinder that could possibly be made to fit inside the stock cover, there is an option.
Sold in the US by American Classix (from one of the Zpower guys in Germany originally I believe) is this svelte beauty:
This is designed to fit inside the stock cover of a Z1/KZ900/KZ1000 and directly replace the stock worm gear assembly that converts cable pull into pushing the clutch rod.
I know nothing else, because I have yet to come up with the $$ to get it for my KZ900. But I am patient...
