I keep telling myself it's going to be worth it...

Well... it's reality time. I could take the carbs off the bike, put some jets in, hope they're the right size, balance the carbs, and repeat until (eventually) it's right for the bike... Or I can take it to someone who knows what they're doing.

So tomorrow, pride and (restricted)joy is off to a company that does dyno tuning for a rejet and a fettle. I knocked the purchase price right down when I bought the bike, and this makes me feel a little better. Previous owner (well... brother/dad I reckon, since they're the ones that put pod filters on) need a firm talking to about this sort of thing - particularly the need to rejet afterwards!

Seeing as they do ally welding I'm going to talk to them about the rear brake setup - the rearset could do with a little building up, I can do the filing back and polishing from there. Might have her serviced at the same time - just to be on the safe side.

It's all good fun this lark...

There are times when us mere shed mortals have to realise our limits....farming out certain jobs is not to be taken as a slight or mean you are anything less than a great big macho man. Now, man up, get it done and don't be bleating on about it like a girl ;)

fair enough, I'll shave my beard and change my tampon and get on with it ;)

Annoying though.

You knew the pods would be trouble.

There is another re-jet outfit selling kits.

Sigma list a kit for Kwacker 305 models. Example: http://www.6sigmajetkit.com/kawasaki-gpz-305-jet-kit.html

You might have to contact them to explain your particular set up.

Maybe an obvious question, but have you looked to see what jets are in there? If they're stock/near-stock, put the stock box on and be about your business. Easy as pie.

Stock box are ugly - I'd rather run with a decent set of filters. It's not like they're flatsides on her after all, and the standard airbox is somewhat restrictive on these.

Problem there is... "Hi Sigma, I need a gpz305 jet kit."
"Cool - so what exhaust is it?" "er.... custom. No manufacturer's name. 2-1 setup motogp style."
"on a gpz305? seriously? ok... what filters are they?" "er.... generic. Pod."

And from this information, I don't think they're going to be able to help. With the best will in the world, the variables are too wide for them to pinpoint a jet for me, and I'd rather she was set up correctly from the go.

Well do yourself a favor and pick up some good UNI's before you try to tune your way out of a hole with those cheapo pods. If you tune to that trash you'll just have to re-tune when you get better filters anyways.

I've seen a quick fix on some pods....tape up half of the intake cone with duct tape or similar and according to requirement, restricting the airflow can help by all accounts.

Not tired this myself as I chose to run stock airbox on my CBX CV carbs.

I got most of an airbox with the bike, but to be honest it looks a hell of a lot better with pods as well. When she's right mechanically she's going to get a paint job, then I'm going to signwrite her (if I've got a vinyl cutter sorted by then) as a promotional bike. As it is, she's not starting again - flat battery, looks like I need to replace that - so I'm going to get an optimate on her overnight and sort out a long term replacement for that. But she's off to Bridgend tomorrow to Two Wheeled services, for a fettle.

I've got to get the cow running to get her there first :(

Looks like battery is dying, won't hold a charge for long. So, as well as jetting new battery is on the cards. Also new plugs. Oil and filter change.

Eh. It's teething troubles. She's been neglected by at least past owner, maybe one before that. One before that built her and did a fine job. I'll get her back to running well, and go from there.
