I leave for Navy bootcamp in 2 weeks!

I went through Army basic training in 2002. All of the above comments are good advice. Just remember that it won't last forever. Keep your head down and do as you're told and you'll be fine.

At least you're getting into something that'll qualify you for a civilian job one day. Not really a civilian equivalent of an Army Infantry soldier, that's why I'm in school for aviation maintenance now.

i went through navy boot camp 4 years ago. im 26 years old as well and to be brutally honest............its lame. lol, sucks while your there but if you do what your told, and work your best, show a little bit of leadership, youll do great. but i will tell you this, get ready to fold some laundry. thats basically what you do the majority of the time there, that and classroom stuff. but really i miss it. wake up at 4am, pt, eat, classroom stuff, eat, pt, take care of your spaces. thats the jist of navy boot camp. good luck and hope to see you in the fleet soon. youll enjoy it

Wow, I wasn't expecting such civil replies to my opinion. I figured there had to be at least one ass who was going act like a douche. Glad I was wrong. You guys are true gentlemen.

Well you were civil in the beginning and didn't call us a bunch of 'baby kilers' so no need for hostilities. I may not share your opinion but I would die defending your right to express it.

Thanks everyone for the wisdom, comments and advice.

Legendary_rider: I understand all the petty bullshit that revolves around the intents of the military, but my intentions are purely to learn a new trade, get the GI Bill benefits and see the world. Ive jumped around from job to job in the civilian worlds and honestly, something is missing. I need discipline, I need structure and I need an opportunity to be part of something legitimate without going into massive debt in the process. Because of the dangers of war, I decided not to join the army or marines, plus I dont think I'd be cut out for that shit, those guys are hardcore. Any more advice you can give, supporting my decision or challenging it would really help me add to my perspective on the situation, because you seem to be better informed on the system than I am.

I'm sure you'll do fine, you seem to know what you need, want, and how to do it. Sood luck and have a good time with a whole new world. Now drop and give us 50 fucker!!!!! ;D

One of the lessons I learned between all the bs. is to put everyone else around you first and yourself second and everything else is golden. I did extremely well on all my own shit but in the end it was useless. Didn't matter worth a damn. All those ticky marks they write about you are just that. What did really matter that I failed to realize was the guy right next to me looked like dog crap and wasn't learning shit. I was too self absorbed and scared of failing when I had already proved myself that I didn't think of the guys that were falling behind. If you can say that you spent your time helping everyone else and they all know it, then who gives a rats ass about you having to do a few extra push ups cause your kit sucks.
When they're screaming in your face, laugh it off. Well...don't actually laugh but remember it's all just a f*cking game designed to teach you respect and to follow orders without questioning. Take it with a grain of salt. Don't become a brainwashed zombie that the military wants you to be (within reason). It's all there to make you pull a trigger and push buttons when a critical moment comes. What they don't want you to think of is all the civilian and friendly casualties that occured in the last few years. TENS OF THOUSANDS! Check out the ACTUAL files from the Afghanistan and Iraq in "Wikileaks". Yes of course you have to act quickly at the moment when lives are at stake cause it IS a war but remember there are usually good reasons people do things. We're invading another country for their resources and creating wars so rich corporations can keep weapon sales flowing and construction companies can have contracts to rebuild demolished cities and to mention others. Basically what they're doing is creating reasons to take Billions from tax payers and put it into corporate bank accounts and paying government officials good money to keep it flowing. Not to mention keep our troops employed and others trained in technical skills. The JFK files are up for release soon due to the Information Act. After a given amout of time it's declassified and the public has access to it. The US govenment is saying that it's still too fresh in peoples minds and are trying to bypass the Act to keep them classified. If they can do that to something so monumental where they don't want the public to know who killed their own President then WTF else are they capable of? "9-11" lies? "Weapons of mass destruction" lies? A war on an entire religious group halfway around the world? One thing I always say first is "Always follow the money". Anyway, I'm ranting I guess. Just remember who you are and why you're doing this and never stop educating yourself and caring for others. Then end of the day maybe everyone will get to live and look at themselves in the mirror.
