I was cruisin' C-list and found, what I think is a gem!
Its a 1964 Honda Dream 150. Every original piece is on the bike. Starter turns over free. Compression is 120 on each cylider. 2000 miles. The guy has all paperwork ,title, registration, papers, and license plate all match. numbers on bike match the title. He even has some spare parts to replace that are rusted. The thing looks great from the far away pictures, even the white piping running along the bottom of the seat!
What would something like this be worth? He didn't say if it ran or not. Im going to call the guy and try to check it out tomorrow. If you guys could spot me with some advice that'd be awesome! He's askin' 850 OBO.
Go out there, check it out, see if it runs, offer 700... if he declines, pay the 850. Its worth it. Id pick one up in a heartbeat if i had the opportunity and the space. The dream is a sexy looking bike.
I paid $600 for mine, not-running and likely not in as nice condition. They're fun little bikes. Not nearly as collectible as the larger 305 Dream, but I think the 150's are catching on. Mine is on the back burner, but is just a carb clean, spark plugs and tune up away from running.
If you can swing the $ and like the bike, it's a great little thing to have.
Here are a few pics of mine, and a pic of a black one. I want to paint mine black at some point.
I've been chattin' with the guy today, he seems really cool. He spent some time on it today and got it runnin' and had me listen to it over the phone. He says the tires are rated for only 20 mph or something like that, so they will need some new rubber. I'm gonna try to get out there and check it out with my dad sometime tomorrow. I do have a little extra money floating around so I might have a new toy pretty soon here. Is there anything that these things are known for? Any problems/issues/other things I should look at before handin' over the cash?
Any more advice guys...anything to look for? I'm not planning on choppin' it or really modifying it much just a nice restore/facelift. Will I be able to turn this thing around after a few years?
Well so long as nothing major is needed in terms of replacement bits, you should be able to clean it up, have some fun with it and get your money back out of it anytime.
These are not performance bikes. The suspensions are very mediocre. While it has rear shocks, the front is some sort of internally sprung system and is pretty flexible. But a 150 should scoot you around town quick enough for fun.
I think I paid $90 for new tires, all-in, installed. Not whitewalls - you'd have to go to Coker Tires for those, and they run about $120 each. I would have done it but I'm in Canada and shipping/taxes/duties etc. nearly doubled the price. Wasn't forking $400 over for 2 tires which I'd then have to install.
Lots of replacement bits on eBay out of Thailand for cheap. May not be highest quality but they look the business.
