I want to help a guy out but first, am I right?

The guy keeps posting his bike up for sale and repeatedly describes it as a "1979 Yamaha CX500".

We all know that the description is totally off but before I try and help the person out I was wondering if I'm correct myself.

I'm thinking it's a '73 or '74 TX500 (based on colour/paint scheme and vented side covers).

Any Yamaha gurus care to chime in?

Not sure what the circumstances are that led this person to getting it so wrong but.........tough to sell a bike that doesn't exist.

And if someone is looking, it's tough to find a TX500 when it's listed as a "cx".

Had one just like it - same color and all. Mine was titled as a '74, TX500. Should be on the Vin label on the steering head.

You could reply asking for more info. Tell him that you have had trouble finding anything on a Yamaha CX500. Could be as simple as a typo.

Looks like someone painted the shit out of it with silver paint......maybe it's just the pic though?
