Idle problems, first ride from winter storage

modifiedamerican

Been Around the Block
I have a 79 kz750. Before winter I had the carbs cleaned, floats and needles set all that good stuff ect. Ran great. Stored it for Winter. Drained the carbs and tank. While it was stored I put clubman bars on the bike. Started it up for the first time today and let it run. Fired right up. But it's having trouble idling. All the cables and stuff seem to be adjusted fine. Not sure where I should start on things to check. Or maybe it's just needs ridden more. Not sure. Also. If if i give the bike more choke so that it runs richer it idles fine. Thanks everyone

A plug will tell you a lot on how the motor is running.

How old is the fuel in the tank?

People make the mistake of draining carbs for winter storage. That guarantees that what little fuel is left in the carbs will evaporate and leave varnish deposits behind. Pour a little Seafoam in the tank and ride that bitch for a week.

Those plug pictures are fine for a 100K mile car, or old bike with lots of miles. To read a plug, it has to be run hard and cut off sharply.

BTW, Drewster, that cursor gif was driving me nuts. I kept looking at my mouse to see what the heck was going on. very funny. I downloaded it.
