TJEvans - only buy one if you're gonna do wild stuff on it man. Seen too many around here ridden by nancys who've never seen a dirt road, let alone ridden one. Not saying you're a nancy, just yeah... Anywho my Fathers got a BMW R80GS Dakar he got back in the 80's, only ever brought 50 into Australia apparently. Geez its a tough old thing, he used to go quarry jumping with it!
Back on topic, I'd get a few:
Offroad: Aprilia SVX550. 52kW & 120kg, eat your heart out! Apparently they're brilliant as supermotards.
Then its a tie between a Triumph Thruxton, KTM RC8 or a Ducati 1000S. Worlds apart, but would have to ride each to find the one I ended up buying. I'd probably get a 250 race-rep stroker as well, leaning towards a Honda NSR with a 300 big-bore kit for closing in on 80 horses. Man...that'd be a wild stable of bikes...
A couple more Suzuki Savages (Boulevard S40), I like singles. Or the new Suzuki 250 that looks mid-1960s but is fuel injected and has modern ignition. Maybe the "cruiser" BMW. If I could find one, a left over Heritage Springer. Or the regular Softail Springer. Except I don't really like post-1964 HD engines. Left over Drifter 1500. Kiwi Chief replica, V-Twin Knucklehead or Panhead replica (with 120 cubic inch SS/Flathead power engine upgrades)...
I'm rather old fashioned. If it doesn't look 1960s at the newest, I don't want it. I'm strange.
I'm technophobic. Points, kickers, carbs, spoke wheels. Hell, I don't like OHV, let alone OHC. When my 1949 Dodge truck is back on the road (218 cubic inch flathead and non-synchro 3 speed), my 1969 Dodge truck with a 318 and slushomatic is going away...
I'd trade my barhopper and my cafe project for a decent 45 inch HD or Indian. A cafe racer Scout, hmm.... It's all about what feels right and isn't a cookie cutter anyway.
I'd rather have the fun of resurrecting an antique.
Me too. But, ancillary to serious riding. I won't trust my body to outdated technology. Put me on a modern sportbike and I'm almost fearless. Besides, I like new bike smell!
Damn force we agreed again! I fucking love that bike! I stop at the local honda place every two weeks or so and go in to look at one and drool on the floor till they escort me out!
That or a speed triple, but I would still rather have the repsol!
I've been wanting a 1000RR since they first came out in '08 and the Repsol is killer for sure, but for some odd reason lately I've been looking at the Royal Enfield Bullet G5 Classic and the Bonneville T100s
It's practical for carving corners and traveling at warp! What motorcycle is practical? I don't ride a bike to haul stuff. I have a pick-up and a trailer for that. I don't ride to sight see. That's what vacations are for. I don't ride a bike so I can carry passengers. My wife has a sedan for that purpose. BTW, I think the REPSOL replica is one of the coolest bikes to ever hit the streets. Is the paint scheme still being produced???
From what I understand Honda only releases the repsol edition in odd years, beginning in 05 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their partnership. They did sell some 08 Repsols, but I was told that they were 07 models that were left over, given some minor upgrades by the dealers and resold as 08's. In that vein, there should be an 11' model... Unless of course they decide to go with the new LCR Playboy scheme, which I would buy in a heartbeat! I seriously doubt thats going to happen though...
Ya man... For about $600 you can buy a complete set of plastics for your CBR 600/1000 already done in that scheme... Now I just need a CBR600, and $600...

ha, this is all true, however from reviews Ive read/watched its even less practical than most rockets. The riding position is quite aggressive, and whatnot. But whatever, Id still love to have one
I sat on a 716 back in the day, and remember now how much pressure was placed on the heels of my hands. Who can forget the kickstand that popped up when you stood the bike upright? I wonder how many Ducatis were dropped by their inattentive owners?
Beemers entry into the superbike field. Comes with traction control, quickshifter and ABS that makes everything else look like it was made a decade ago. Plus it puts out 142kW/190hp and weighs 2/10ths of stuff all.
