ignition coil & pulse generator ohms readings

boys :), so i'm having an issue with my 600 and i'm sure its electrical! I have been checking the manual for the ohms readings for a couple of parts the ignition coil and the pulse generator, we'll start with the coil. The manual states that the ign coil secondary circuit with the plug cap on should read between 8.5 & 11.0 ohms, my reading gives me 8.35 ohms would we then say that it's stuffed and should be replaced?

The second part is the pulse generator, the manual states that you should get a reading between 360 & 440 ohms, my reading is 493 ohms wtf?

Just as a matter of cousre to pick your proverbial brains, during my research I have read multiple statements that your spark should be a thick/fat and intense blue one, I have replaced the spark plug and cap with no change still not what I call and intense spark. I know that the coil delivers the HV to the plug so if I replace the coil wth no real change, would I be safe to assume the stator needs to be repkaced also?

thanks In advance for any light you shed. Andy...........

Unless your meter cost a fair bit, it could just be a cheap meter giving inaccurate readings.

What's the problem and what's the bike?

EDIT: I guess it's the XL....

I don't know about the XL directly, but I do know that the bigger CR's from the same era had issues with earting/grounding - apparently there is a ground point on the headstock (or near it) and with time/use these grounding points would build up resistance and cause issues and bad starting.

Yeah it's the xl, it starts and idles fine but it will loose power as you rev, not enough to cut out. I have 2 meters and they both gave the same readings? It's intermittent too so it will run fine but drop power and then comerback again, I suppose it coukd be an earthing problem will give then all a check. cheers Andy
