So I bought a completely parted out SV650 for under scrap prices. It was so cheap I couldn't say no. The idea was I would use some bits for my CL350 project and sell the rest on ebay. I know the front end will fit but I have grand aspirations of trying to get the rear wheel to work. I've seen one or two people use there stock swing arm instead of chopping up a more modern one. I think the stock one will do just fine If I can get it to work. There is one problem. the SV's rear is super wide. Allot of this excess width seems to be because of the drum that the rear sprocket attaches to. Dose anyone think it could be milled down to fit? I guess another option would be to hack the original swing arm up and re weld it but then I get into getting the rear suspension to work properly. Another huge issue is getting the chain to line up properly as well as a shedload of other little issues.
So, what do you guys think? I know I'm going to catch a load of shite for wanting to do this but I really want to make this work.
Step away from the web and get to work.
Just some simple mock up should show you if you can get the wheel to fit in the arm. Or if it won't fit what it will take to make it fit. Look at axle diameters too.
Use a GS500 sprocket carrier, I think it's narrower than 650 one? (I know it's about 3/4" narrower than GSX***F)
The amount that can be machined off is very minimal, there are hollows in back of it

Thanks mate the advise is hugely appreciated. The hollow in the back was a concern. I've even considered chopping the excess off, having a plate welded on and then tap that out but it sounds like a huge headache that probably wont work. Ill have to do some research on the GS500. Hopefully something will fit!
