I'm Back, and riding HIGH

Crash

Crashing is a way of life
Well, it's been a while since I posted, but for those that remember, I had to let my cafe go because of an injured back. But, I recently purchased a 1978 KZ650 SR that I plan to mod a little bit. It will not be a cafe, but will be one at heart. My plans are to make it somewhat of a mini bagger. Batwing fairing (Wixom) saddle bags, Euro Bars, Bar Ends, 4 into 1 exhaust (Probably Kerker), Dyna S ignition and coils, progressive front springs and rear shocks, LTD Seat (lower seat height), pod filters, stage 3 jet kit, Dark Candy Red Paint, Halogen and LEDs, drill the rotors, lower it a couple inches (maybe), lucas style tail light, and custom "Name" Graphics on the fairing. Oh, and my "13" will have to go somewhere.

Any other suggestions would be great.

Will call it the Battle KruZer

And here are the pics.

Welcome Back,Crash thats great looking SR sounds like ya going for the comfort KZone ;) kep the pics coming

Hey Crash, sounds like you have a great plan for the KZ! ;D Too bad about your back , :'( but 'good on ya' for gettin' back in the saddle! After all, that's what it's all about! Make your ride personal, and go ridin'! 8)

Keep us 'in the loop'! :D

how is your back by the way? hopefully everything went well. I hate to see a good cafe go but man you only have 1 life and bikes come and go.
fight the good fight

the back is doing OK. No new pains, so that is good.

Yea, it's all I can do to keep from turnin' this one into a cafe racer, but I am in love with this bike, and know if I do, I'd have to sell it. So, I'll keep the geometry and ergonomics pretty close to stock. I fear that much deviation will bind my back, and then I'll be right back where I started.

Though I don't have a cafe, I have always lived the Rocker lifestyle, and always will. Go FAST, Party Hard, and Work on my own stuff.

BTW, this bike will do a ton plus with out even thinking about it.

Few Updates. Installed the Fairing and really like it. May trim down the shield a little to give it a sportier look. Also thinking about lowering the suspension a little.

Was commented by a friend that it looks like an Evil Police Cruiser. So, I came up with this graphic that may go on the tank sides.

it belonged to an older fella in new brunswick then it sat for 15 years before the guy i bought it from got it. maybe the bags are on another kz in the east coast somewhere.... ;D

maybe the bags are on another kz in the east coast somewhere
Not the East coast. Just North of Toronto maybe.
Those bags are residing in my garage.

Just waiting on me to take that cross country ride. 8)

I swaped Blake, who owned the bike then, for the Shoei bags.

you have em?!! hmm, i think i'm remembering blake tellin me this now...my bad, well there ya go Crash! ;D

New Update:

Decided not to go with the "bagger" project. Instead, I am going to go more for the muscle bike / Streetfighter look.
Slammed the rear end today with some 11" shocks I had from my CB250 Build. Veryy Aggressive stance now. May still change out the bars, but if I do they will be Euro or Superbike Style. Maybe a 1/4 fairng, not sure yet.

Re: I'm Back, and riding HIGH (Low Now that I dropped it 2 inches)

***Updated Pics***

So I finally lowered the headlight and gauges on my 78 SR. I cut off the studs that are part of the guage mount and drilled holes where the were. Using new 3/8 bolts, i just put the gauges under the tree instead of on top of the tree. Lowered the headlight with ears from Z1. I had to cut of the steering lock, but no big deal. Left about a half inch hole in the stem that I wrapped up with some black duct tape. Next up, Shorter cables to clean up the front end and a chin scoop that is on the way.

That's a sweet bike! 8)

I so want a KZ650 to cruise around on. I have enough parts to build a KZ550LTD,but I need a titled frame.
My buds KZ650 is a great, strong running machine and I'd like to pick up a project 650 sometime in the next few months after I get some of my other project out of the way.
