I'm done with Facebook

Been Around the Block
I'm so sick of dealing with all the problems it seems to cause. DTT will now be my only form of social interaction on the internet. You guys are so much more chill, and I don't have to deal with my Aunt seeing the crap that my college roommate posts on my fb wall.

Amen to that my friend. I rarely check FB but when I do it's always a disappointment. The level of stupidity and complaining is through the roof. Maybe it's just the social media medium or it's the people I have friended :)

Facebook is like walmart of the internet. Best avoided if possible.

Too funny, great line! I got off it a month or two ago, didn't use it much anyway. It was interesting for the first month or so, but got old really quick.

Facebook is like a forum that is easy for everyone to understand and has no topic other than drama, pictures, and stalking.

However, it is the ease of use that makes it handy as a place where you can host pictures, form local clubs, and keep others up to date on the happenings of your life (if you want) or your organization.

The problem is, many have a hard time keeping their words to themselves. They spill their guts on facebook, hoping someone will notice and give them attention. Worse yet, when people respond to their updates in a negative manner, the drama begins, and sometimes ends with people doing really stupid things.

I'll admit, I update my Facebook status once a week. Usually because my family (who all live 8 hours away) likes to see what I'm up to. My status usually is a summary of week's news of my life.

Mountain Biking in my city is a strange underground occurrence. Lots of people do it, but no-one organizes it. Over the years, this lack of organization has left the county pretty much devoid of good riding spots. Some guys have gotten together to create a club on Facebook. Personally, I hate the idea. But it's free, and it gives me a place to put maps. Without maps, riding unknown areas is difficult.

So Facebook does have its advantages, its just like any other thing in life, you've actually got to THINK about using it, and not be absorbed into the collective zombie mind-fu*k.

As seen on facebook... :p

Fuck FB. I never even have had one. I had a MySpace account for about a year years ago and learned real quick I appreciate my privacy.

My wife gets on me for not having an active FB account. But then she gets notifications on her phone because people keep liking her status/pics/wall/ whatever.........all night and all day.

I have one, and I hate to admit it but I'm on there every day. However, 99.99999999% of that is because I have family in every corner of the country and friends in military in every corner of the world, and we like to keep in contact. PHeller is right about it being a nice, easy way to interact when you can not be there in person, but that same ease of use makes it over-used and abused and some people just need a dose of "shut the fuck up". I too grow tiresome of the constant "OMG, today I had eggs for breakfast!" or the ever classic "I'm about to go to bed! Goodnight!". Seriously, I could give a rats ass less about your every waking moments and movements. If it's important enough that you feel you need to share it with the world, sit back, think about it some more, and then decide again if it's really that important.

Apparently I run with a relatively sane crowd compared to you guys. I've never had a problem. Ever. Facebook is a godsend for me as I have close friends spread all over the world (well just a couple in Portugal and Thailand). I'd never be able to stay in touch with everyone. Calling or emailing everyone just isn't a reality. I'm content.

Yeah, I have a facebook, and I do enjoy it. I have friends from various places I've lived/they've moved that I wouldn't keep in touch with otherwise....

The key to keeping drama free is removing people....seeing 900 friends shit is drama lol.....if you don't want to see it. delete them, simple as that, or hide updates....

Too funny.
At some times I think this forum can have as much drama as Facebook.
Who wants to discuss politics, gun control, and flame a noob, all at the same time? 8)
I'm definitely on this forum more than Facebook, so maybe I get my fill of drama.

I like this FB joke:

Facebook is like prison. You have a profile picture, sit around, write on walls, waste time, and get poked by guys you don't really know.
