I've Put This Off, Long Enough...

Been Around the Block
I'm yet to figure out this wiring situation. After looking at a few diagrams, I'm still a little confused, so, Here goes..

Here are my Harness & Parts.

Beside's the Battery and Condenser, This should be enough for what I want, right?
It looks like it should be a matter of plugging things in, for the most part..

- Head Lights
- Tail Light (With Brake Light)
- Kick Start - only

And instead of a Kill Switch, could I just use the main Ignition Switch for my On and Off Function?
Should I Tape and/or Cut off All the wire I won't be using?

It would be easier and cleaner to build your own from scratch. With the few electrical needs you will have, your wire harness will be cake. If you do build your own, I would ditch the fuse block for the more modern blade fuses. building your own will have the added benefit of new wires which will have new, un-cracked sheath and non oxidized copper.
If you must use the stock harness, unwrap it completely. then hook up everything you will keep (on the floor) and remove the wires left over. Then re-wrap it or loom it (on the bike so everything is where you want it). Yes you can just use the key switch, be sure you connect the two leads for the kill switch together (this is unnecessary if you build your own).

Edit: I dug around in my pictures and found this.

That Diagram is glorious!
Ahhhhh, well shit. Making a loom from scratch seems to be the better option.

Okay so, as for the blade fuses, would I use this same box? or how would that connect?
I'll go pick up some wire tomorrow and get started on this..

Any thing else I should look for? Any specific wire?

Thanks!

You really only need one fuse. so i would go to Napa and get a waterproof fuse holder. I say napa because they have one that has 12 gauge wire and better fuse holder. The cheap ones at Autozone say they are rated for 30 amps, but on my 4WD I melted two and they only had20 amp fuses in them. Now I use the ones from Napa.

yes I think that's right. It's been a while since I did mine, but I think that's right.
don't get in a hurry. I tend to be too meticulous, but I like it to look really good. it usually takes twice as long as it should when i do wiring.

I just re wired my whole bike using a slightly modified version of that diagram. Basically I took that and added turn signals. Take your time and think it all through.

The only thing I would think about adding is a handlebar kill switch. Not necessary, but always a good idea.

that diagram is from a guy who sells it on ebay for $5.. it also comes with a couple other diagrams, including a barebones no lights lossless system.

If you use this diagram I would ask that you find the guy on ebay and pay him his $5. It's well worth the money and he is very helpful, willing to answer any wiring questions you have.

This would be the honest thing to do for sure. I bought mine directly from him. He also includes some handy documents on wiring and Honda color codes. No shipping, he just emails the docs to you. Here's a link to his auction:

ya, I mean I probably wouldn't have even mentioned it if he was charging something crazy... but $5 seems to be a perfectly fair price to me. It would have taken me hours and hours to design my own barebones harness.

I used his to learn from and then designed my own around it. Basically adding turn signals and modifying his a bit. The docs he sends you with that diagram were essential to me getting it right on the first try. The detailed Honda color code doc is golden.

Ya, I didn't stick to the color codes.. I mean, I have a specific color for the specific purposes... but I just didn't hunt down the exact brown/white stripe for whatever..

I'm about to get some of these wire ends connected, and build up the harness. Got a question.

For the alternator, I see it has two main wire, then the neutral switch cable? I'm assuming.
My Stator has 4 wire connected to the terminal, would I just close off the wire that i wont use?
Same goes for the Ignition switch.

The Rectifier and Regulator, coils etc.. are all straight forward, the amount of wire for each is used on the diagram.
It's just the Alternator and Ignition switch, that have 4 wired terminals, though the alternator shows it uses (2) or (3).
And as for the ignition switch, it shows two connections on the diagram, but there (4) wires connected to it's terminal as well.

Alternator Seems to have, Green/Red stripe, Yellow, And (2) braided wires I haven't identified connected to the terminal.
Ignition switch seems to have - Red, Black, Brown, and Brown/Yellow stripe.
