JETTING? Is my brain thinking correcty?

Alright.

So I just moved from living at sea level to living at 7500' above sea level.

Whenever I do a bike, I usually open the exhaust, and put pods on the bike. I did this back at sea level and usually bumped 3 main sizes and one pilot size and the bike would run great. Now that I am way up in the sky things are a little funky.

So my most recent project I just did true duals, fully open, and pods. The bike runs ok, but doesnt have alot of power. Compression checks out fine, so im pretty sure its in the carb.

Symptoms:

'80 CX 500, pretty clean carbs, brand new plugs.

-I have the mixture screw set to 3/4 turns out
-Choke is working fine
-Bike idles great
-Throttle is pretty responsive (a little hesitant when snapping it)
-Backfires a bit on decel at higher RPMS, sounds good at lower RPMS
-Not alot of power in the low end
-Bike hits 4-5k and takes off great!

To me, this seems like.....

The bike is running a bit lean on the high end ...
- Popping on decel in higher RPMs
- Power boost at higher RPMs
- Open pipes & Pods
So my main jet might be able to go up one size

The bike is running a bit rich on the low end
- Smell of gas a little bit
- Lack of power at low end
- 7500' elevation
So my pilot jet should go DOWN a size

Would anyone out there second my opinions? Or should I look at other options for lack of power?

first if you did not extract the emulsion tubes and slow jets the carbs are not clean

i dont know which pods you put on the bike but if they are the cheapo ones you may want to read thru this

http://cx500forum.com/forum/cx-customization-modifications/14114-pods-plug-atmospheric-ports.html

mixture screws go to 2.5-3 turns

with true duals at you elevation i would be trying 85/118

just saw the pics of your bike your exhaust is pretty short lol

get some 90/120 jets as well when you order some you may have to go that high to get it right

also do the brass rod conversion on your plug caps to eliminate the resistors then switch to iridium plugs

do you plug chops with the regular d8es plugs but run with the iridiums

you have to do it this way as you cant get a good plug reading off iridium plugs

Also, going up in elevation should cause you to richen up... not leaner.....

Your problem from being lean is not elevation...
