JOB

PHeller

Coast to Coast
I need one.

Since I graduated last summer I've not had full time work. Lots of part-time, temporary, or as-needed, but nothing full-time.

This translates into: plenty of time to wrench, not enough money for parts

You and me both man.

I've not yet graduated (I should've... awhile ago, like a year+... I've just been taking a light class load so... yeah)

I've got a decent summertime hookup, but, the work ends at the end of the summer so I'll be job hunting... AGAIN.

why don't all of the DTT members who don't have a job move in together and start a bike fab company? shared rent + income + good company...

Hah! That's actually an awesome idea.

"Poor boys bike shop"... I can see it now.

Where's home base?

find all the people who want in, and then locate the nearest large city that is the average distance from all of you guys.

or pick somewhere smart, aka somewhere with a lot of bike traffic and people who have money to spend.

...What?

I know a dentist named Payne. Not shittin' ya, Dr. Payne. Pretty sure he's not on the forums though :p

I went to school for geography, but most of my specialized experience is in non-construction surveying. I do a lot of maps, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for use in non-profit recreational and resource management.

However in my current city there is very little of a market for such skills...and as such I've found it hard to obtain gainful employment.

Hopefully the girlfriend will get a decent job, get experience, and then we can get the hell out of here!

Network. Update your resume. Search jobsites like Craigslist, Monster, Indeed. Join LinkedIn. Ask professors, friends and family for connections (this last one is probably most likely).

I spent 12.5 years as a glass maker/industrial mechanic. Graduated from nursing school last year. I've gotten every job I've applied for since. I got tow jobs in one day last spring and I have to turn work down now. It's a good profession and you get used to the blood, gore, poop and death pretty fast. I also wanted to be a funeral director/embalmer which I might do at some later point in time.

are you guys willing to relocate? i can see if there are any openings in the student advising department at the university i work at... it is based out of the NW burbs of the city

Relocating is something you should consider. check out the philly area. I see construction and people survey all the time.

Joe, so funny you work in a university. I work for Drexel University in Philly. Let's see, so far we both have a TX/XS500 and a university job...

After I finish, I'd prefer to stay around my area, (Detroit-ish area and surrounding suburbs)

You have given me a great idea though, Joe. I think I'll definitely try and figure out what kind of work is available at the university I go to. Just curious, do you work in the advising department or what?

Looking for one too, just finished my engineering BTEC certificate course :)
I've got a couple other tickets up my sleeve, first aid (focus on drowning and hyperthermia), Dinghy instructor license etc but all the good jobs in that field have been bagged by people who will have them for the next 20 odd years. My mate said he knows a guy who might want an apprentice in his bike shop but its a 4 hour commute there and back and I won't be making anything from it......

I like this idea of making the "poor man's bike shop" anyone want to import a china man to make the shop multiracial for political correctness? :D
