Government Motors baby!

Sweet. I've been lusting after a 15-passenger version myself. You can either load them with benches or have a huge enclosed hauler without all the unnecessary weight and space inefficiency of a Suburban.

Or sell your house and sleep in Wal-Mart lots.....think of all the money left over for parts

.....i wanna buy a pickup for transportin my bike, so i feel ya

I want conversion van ideas, this thing is my vehicle for days that I don't want to ride (because of need to haul stuff or weather) I plan on semi permanently mounting the Ducati and the 750 in the back of it so that they're out of the way for me to work on SixtyNine (Loudbike's on display in the lobby of our our office for now) with roll in locking chocks such as:

Right now the floor has a mat with a thick carpet pad under it. Good for walking, but not for loading stuff (the van was first owned by Time Warner, so it was a cable truck). The pad has to go I'm thinking of rolling on Herculiner front to back from under the dash all the way back to the tailgate. The quote from LineX for them to do it was $800 and that was just for the square footage before masking, which will not be happening.

I'd like to improve the lighting inside the box. Do products for that exist? Right now it's only got one tiny dome light in the back and one in the front.

I need a ramp for the back and a place to put it. Maybe an aluminum job with a roof rack. Ideas?

Also I need some kind of rail system in the back:

but flush mount would be nice... ideas?

Cool article I found ages ago.... if this helps you a little, then it will be good that I kept it in my favourites for so long. There is so talk of adding electrics and what not.

So there's a guy who drives an old Divco milk van like this: http://images.google.com/images?q=divco+milk+truck&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=lQ5zS6yBB4eKswPwkKmsBQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CCMQsAQwAw

He's got it fairly tricked out, Cummins turbo diesel.....airbags etc.
His is mainly for hauling his shit to track days and stuff. Too cool but really rare.

If you want to give up a few 'Kewl Pointz' hit up your local FritoLays (think potato chips) distribution center. They regularly all but give away their box vans after a certain point. My next door neighbor bought one with something like 200K miles which is nothing for a solid diesel for $1200. It's got an aluminum body comprised of mostly flat or single bend sheet, gets 20mpg or so loaded, unloaded, highway, surface streets etc.
A retired fleet vehicle might be a good way to go if you can do without a factory warranty.

I may be heading down to look at one myself this week. I have lots of machining stuff including several "small" machines that would lend themselves to mobility pretty nicely.
I can bolt one of my steel tables in behind the driver's partition and then bolt down a 9-20 Jett lathe and my small Grizzly mill/drill that've been waiting for a home since i moved the big machines in. I've got a beefy Honda generator with a bent (trailer debarkation mishap) frame that could go to the project too. Even with that, some cabinetry/shelves and such I will still have plenty of room for 4-5 bikes and a fold down double size bunk. Could get nuts and work up a folding table too. I've got a beer fridge that's currently holding all my sandpaper (don't ask....it was there) add some folding chairs and a few other small details and it'd be almost better than home!

we use one of these to pick up bikes on occasion... we have a harbor freigh wheel chuck in it, the self locking kind... then on the floor we put in eyelets every 3 ft all the way back.... works great,
to load and unload we use a dirtbike ramp....

Kewl points are out the window. Mine's an ex Time Warner Cable van. It had cabinets in it before I bought it, but I sold those back to them for $200 off (a pretty good deal for them) I've had it a month now and it's been in the shop for all of last week and all of this week so far getting the transmission rebuilt because of a fourth gear slip at 119xxx miles. So far I've ripped out all the floor mats and all the plastic shrouds for the steps and gate, mounted 3 Harbor Freight locking chocks and am planning on Hurculining the floor from under the dash to the tail. The jury's still out on building a bulkhead between what would be the cabin and the box. I like it being open so I can move through out it, but it would also be nice to be able to sound deaden the cabin and have some more storage between the front seats, it would heat up and cool down faster that way too.

What about building a bulkhead with one of those pocket door type things... would block it off nicely, but let you through as needed.

Would take a bit more work, of course.

If I do make a bulkhead it would have a door in it. It wouldn't go all the way to the floor though because I'd like to make a storage/seating box between the front seats and the middle chock is right there against the backs of the front seats. It would have to have a big window in it so I can still see out the back and side windows:

Like the Ford one:

(oops, can't direct link from Flickr so click this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/carphotosbyrichard/3228696968/in/set-72157622078929804/ )

but I don't think that one had a door. Maybe a door's not really important... I don't know

Hahaha I rock a 2004 chevy 3/4 ton It's sweet. When I was in the apartment it was where I kept my DB i had a chock that locked the front tire down. It worked like a charm. I am gonna keep this thing. Mine is a little longer but I can put 16 foot 2x4 in it and shut the doors. I camp in it pop up an air mattress. I want to put s fold up awning on the side and a rack on the top that I can walk on put some chairs on for races. When I pay it off I want to lower it a little and put some rims on it and put a cool wrap on it like a race hauler. You'll enjoy it.

I just finished reading this thread and a bulkhead is a cool idea. I want to put on in I need to figure out if I can put an air mattress in the front first. Mine was an old disney shuttle van. What engine does yours have the v6 Mines go the 6l v8 ;D I can pull some people off the line and surprise them. I saw the scooby doo van at universal last year and it had v board inside I think thats what i'm gonna do. For your light cunumdrum I would just wire some more lights in series find somthing like led's at a auto parts store or ebay. Mine has ac all the way back so I'll have to make vents and stuff. Keep us posted with some pics on your progress.

Thats sweet. I am debating between lifting mine or lowering it. I think lowering it would make it easier to get bikes in and out of. Its hard to find parts though. I want to do a static drop but cant seem to find any spindles or coils.
