I'm trying to figure out the MOST basic way to wire a bike just to see if she starts. I've got my whole wiring harness on the bike, I believe everything is connected the right way. Battery is fully charged. But I hook up the battery connection to the positive side, turn the key on, turn the 'Run' switch on spray some starter fluid in the carbs and don't get anything.

Is there any way to get power to the plugs or coils just to see if those parts even work? What should I be testing? I havn't done any wiring before. I just want to get my bike running!

There is a whole bunch of elements to see if a motor will fire up. Obviously your gonna need to start from ground up. Power, then wiring, spark, then points. What you'll want to do if everything is hooked up is follow djelliott's instructions. Check for spark. If you have no spark it could be one of two things. First thing to check is your points. The plate behind your points can freeze or lock up overtime depending on how long it sits. Check your spark plug gap first, then check your point if you don't get spark. If that doesn't work use a volt meter and make sure your getting power to your coils.

and if your not getting power to the coils, like me, would that be a foul wire or incorrect wiring, anything?
