Krazy Katana

Big crack in that piston, cracked, con rod cracked and big end shells squeezing out to escape. That motor is a few revolutions away from throwing a leg out of bed. You stopped just in time. It needs crank or at least one rod, but if you can get a clean low mileage motor that may be the way to go.

I think I've found my solution

Update: He responded to me saying he meant to change the list price back to $300 and he wouldn't take anything less than that. Debating if it's still worth an 8 hour round trip for it...

Nice! Those motors are pretty much identical to yours.....but you'll now have better carbs ;)
I didn't even realize the carbs were different haha. What makes the bandit carbs better?

They'll just be newer. Carbs wear out over time and there's stuff you don't / cant replace (slides, bores, etc).

Pull the motor, take what you need, part out the rest. You will make at least half your money back potentially.

I hope you got your parts bike caleb. 300 is easy to recoup from the various leftovers.

+1
even at $300 it's a bargain for Bandit. you can sell the 43mm forks for more than that (take a look on ebay)
They are a direct swap into any GS1000 or GSX1100

I've been camping in Yosemite this weekend and the Super Bowl is tomorrow (Go Broncos!!) so I won't be able to go get it until next Saturday at the soonest. Unless I can get out of class on Thursday.

Well, that bandit fell through. I was going to go up to get it this weekend, but the guy has stopped responding.
I'm looking at getting this for parts...

Has the exhaust I've wanted for a while, and a good amount of other stuff I can hopefully sell to make some $ back. Otherwise I'm looking at buying an eBay motor, or just trying to make a couple hundred bucks selling parts from mine and putting it towards a new bike once I get my tax return.

For $400 you need to jump on that.
Should easily make money back on parts, only problem could be storing the bits while waiting for them to sell.
Titled frame has to be worth $200? Wheels at least 50~75 each (or get a trail bike and build a supermoto? ;) )
I would be interested in the plastic piece around instruments, they usually get tossed and don't end up on e-bay (only seen complete with clocks or clocks get removed and sold individually)

Is that a 750? taillight is 'wrong' for a 1991 600

I'd let er go.

On the subject of new bikes, I think this is my year for a klx450 supermoto.

Seed, planted.
I'm on the fence about it. I recently bought nice new tires, a good chain, and some maintenance stuff so I hate the thought of just letting that go. On the other hand this bike has had plenty of problems, and I feel like the odds of a 30k motor also having problems is reasonably high.

If I do get it, I'd send you the plastic surround. I was noticing that too. Pretty sure the 600 didn't have a one piece seat until the "curvy" ones came out, and that tail light/grab bar setup is definitely not 600.
After some quick googling it's definitely a 750. Which makes me more inclined to get it

Yep a sportbike engine with 30k pulled from a bike that looks like that is a very large paperweight.

I don't need two paperweights haha.
There's a XL250 and a TS185 that both run out in the Valley that I'm looking at getting. Would be a fun little around town bike to ride until a good parts bike comes up for the Katana. I'm not paying insurance for it and the tabs are good until July, so I don't feel bad about holding onto the roller for a little while and parting out what's left of the engine that isn't fucked.

You'll be hard pressed to kill either of those options. Both wonderful bikes. The XL and TS of course :)

I ended up getting a 1972 DT2
I'm going to hold onto the Katana roller until I get a job this summer and have money to spend on a new engine and clean the whole thing up.
