KZ 650-"My Project has Projects"

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Did a bit more work. I hadn't been able to seat the tail section on the bike when it is at its normal stance. I had the front end off and jacked up. So tonight I quickly put the forks together and threw the front spoked wheel on. This is what I've got.

This helped me decide I'm definitely going with spoked rims and I've got some more shaping. By the looks of my recent pictures I feel like I am getting no where, just sitting and staring trying to make decision on colors, shape, stance, to clip on or to clubman. I'm so far behind on decision making.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

First: I would totally put a sweet looking 45 degree turn down on your pipe right under your foot.
Second: Remember, you can always re-paint things.
Third: Seat looks good!
Forth: I dont know what your plans are for the engine but...Maybe think about polishing it. You have lots of time to think about ideas and stuff when your polishing.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Thanks for the comment Gearhead, any luck on your bike? I found a 72 RD350 for $400with title and engine running, the rest of it is a rust bucket but I might be picking it up for the next project. Its a pretty good deal I don't know if I can pass it up.

I think I'm going to run a full kerker exhaust, if I don't I'm going to run the exhaust full length for performance reasons. I believe I have settled on a paint scheme. Black, Ivory/Creme, Suede Brown. Thank you on the seat. As fas the engine goes, I'm thinking on painting black and polishing the edges of the fins, etc. This is going to be my daily rider I just can't justify polishing the entire engine when its going to get cruddy.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

That paint scheme sounds really sweet. Black with polished fins is my favorite. Im gonna wait until after christmas to start shopping again. Shit kinda hit the fan with bills and Christmas presents this month so Im going to hold off. Its gonna suck but I have to be responsible.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Stripped the tank. I love the look of bare metal, but its been done... ALOT.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Hey! Nice build. I'm doing a KZ650 myself. Check out my build thread sometime! Looking forward to following your progress!

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Ahh the Jellybean, I have been following it. Its looking very good. You had a damn good base to start with. I just don't post a whole lot, I'm more a reader but I will definitely keep an eye on your thread. Thanks

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Just a quick update. I did some finishing on the tank and the tail section. It seems like never ending body work but I've still got some bodywork on it. I threw a top coat on it to seal the tank and also help me see imperfections while sanding back down. The bike is not going to be white but it will have some cream colored Ivory knee dents with a mainly black tank and pinstriped light brown. I'm also planning on working in some red highlights in some places but very minimal.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Some more progress was made tonight. I made the electronic box beneath my seat.

It is currently just tacked together. I've got a few more cuts to make on it. I plan on this housing everything and mounting my reg/rec on the front of the outside to keep it cool. The holes are also to keep things inside ventilated. I will be installing some mesh in an attempt to keep some crud out. The reg/rec will mount like this and it is hidden when installed on the bike.

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

I also received my low-rise clip-ons and snapped a few shots with them in two different positions. I will be going with the positions on the right side if your sitting on the bike looking forward.

i will be folowing your build

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

Thanks. I'm planning on a black(main), creme(knee dents) light brown pin striping and accenting. Front fender similar to yours. What kind of rear sets did you use and how much adapting do you have to do? I'll be running spokes with rear drum and front disc

Re: 77 KZ650 Cafe Build

cant wait to see the paintjob
i made an adapter plate for the rearset of a gsxr 600/750 k3
and drilled two holes trough the frame to attach the adapter plate
in your case the brake side will require some changing because of the hydraulic brake cilinder linkage
in my tag you can find a link to my build
