Hey guy im new here but not to motorcycles. I just bought a 76 Kz400 to add to my growing collection of bikes. 82 Gs850g. I dont want to do anything to crazy with the kz since i will be using it as my daily driver when its not raining or freezing here in FL.

Plans are clip on bars, rear set, exhaust, single carb mod, cafe seat, paint job and weight reduction/ remove everything not needed. I live down the road from Dime City Cycle so it will be nice to swing by grab some parts and not wait for shipping. Any suggestion or comments hit me up.

I had a buddy with the same exact bike, right down to the color and the rust! Looks like a good candidate.
He turned his into a hardtail rat bobber. Had bmx handlebars on it springer seat/ bitch pad, etc. Had a ground clearance of about 6 inches. Little bike was a blast to ride,

Good luck with your bike and your build

Me trying to kick start it for 2 hours. Never started I think the coil is bad barely getting any spark. I fixed leaking fuel lines, did an oil change, replaced the plugs. I ordered a new coil, starter, BMC rebuild kit. I going to Dime City Cycles tuesday to pick up some clubman bars and new battery maybe some other stuff.

Thanks. Wish I could take credit for the body work. It was like that when I got it. However I have plans to make it look like my own.

Re: Kz400 "Dragon Slayer" Cafe project / daily

I checked the wiring today still cant get it started, so i order everything electrical i could possibly be and why not replace it everything is original and i could always have an extra just in case. Tomorrow im picking up some clubman bar and maybe some other parts from DCC. Anyone have recommandations on tires?

Re: Kz400 "Dragon Slayer" Cafe project / daily

Went down to DCC today picked up some clubman bars, mini sealed battery and some fuel hose. Jason from DCC is really helpful and crack up guy. Waiting on coil, BMC rebuild kit, points and condenser and a few other parts i cant remember. This weekend going to install the new parts, build an under seat battery box, seat pan and rear hump, wrap the exhaust and remove any unneeded part. Going to use the rear hump off my 06 gsxr that was stolen a few years ago the only part i have left.

Yaa, another kz400. You need to do the coil mod. It can be found on kz400.com. Adds a realy to system to get full 12 volts to coil. Good luck!! I am just about to get mine back on the road.

Do you have a direct link to that coil mod? I have been all over kz400.com and haven't seen it.

Thanks.

Progress for the night, install the clubman and swapped over everything from the old bars besides the start button/kill button screw it stuck. I love the sitting position now, I cant wait to make my seat this weekend.

Re: Kz400 "Dragon Slayer" Cafe project / daily

I got a few things done today. Remove front blinkers, rear fender, blinkers, tail light and inner fender. I made a under seat pan out of Lexan to move all electronics and battery to. Heres some blurry pics

Curious, were did you order your points and condenser from and how much were they?
