Classic. It's always THIS ONE GUY ;D

About the money - man's got a have a hobby. Whatever makes you happy. Don't sweat it (you're not but still) 8) It's the engine rebuild that made it expensive but hey, you've got a great engine now! And overall, WOW! I can dig it.

Cheers!

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

I think it looks very well done. I don't know that I'd specify the matte blue, but it's not my bike. I think it would be killer at night if that silver stripe were highly reflective.

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

Im really down with the color, but everytime i see the pinstripe i think it looks tacky

maybe i just have to see it when the bike is back together and decide then, anyone know how hard or what needs to be done if i dont like it and want to remove it? would the whole tank have to re preped and painted?

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

Leave it mate, it looks awesome. I know that that follows the shape of the original pin stripe imo a nice touch. Adds some flamboyance with out being ott.

Maybe you could pick up the white somewhere else, white piping on the seat upholstery or stitching...

That's one of the points why im not 100% into it, the "white" should actually be cast iron grey to match the motors side covers and front forks

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

Oh yeah? So how did your painter manage to get that wrong? Not sure about the blue & grey combo, not enough contrast for that to work without a white pinstripe around the grey to make it pop, then you're back to square one. Kawasaki bright green like their dirt bikes would look sweet with the blue, might still need a white pin stripe to make it pop though. It's a tough choice, part of me still thinks I should have gone for the big flake white, me bike from the sides is very black, I didn't really want the 'bad ass cafe racer look'. I like it from the angle where I can see the stripe.

How he got it wrong i have no idea. If it were grey and not white I would be ok with it as it still would have the black pinstripe. I'm more into subtle color differances

Re: KZ440 First build, New paint

I'll bet he chose "dove gray" and you wanted more "battleship gray". If you just said "gray"...
I still think this can be salvaged if you use the same shade gray/black outline elsewhere (side panels? "Kawasaki" script on the engine?) to echo the colors.

Ooooo, then no excuse. Maybe you can get him to give you the matching 2-tone Kawasaki script (or other integrating trim) for free now.
