hey marla do...tank was just sanded then left bare.... i was going to clear it but im not going too anymore... i got some lanolene spray will test that out!
the tank straps just go straght over the tank and pull it down toward the backbone....they arent attached to the tank. just to the frame.
got busy in the raj over the last couple of days.....
heres the latest!
so the larger front sprocket....is heaps larger!
stocker
bigger
note in the last pic how little clearance there is between the sprocket and the guard on the engine block....
definately not enough!!!
so i got handy with the dremel
now theres heaps more space!
fitted up the new rear sprocket,
and also gave the rear wheel a little clean! not going to go the whole 10 yards with the back wheel like i did with the front!
the back just gets too dirty too quickly to worry about.... besides its no show bike...
carried on with the whole cleaning up of things!
i also took it upon myself to also clean up the front wiring harness and hide it all under the triple backbone as opposed to in the back of the headlight...relocated the horn under the backbone aswell!
heres how she sits at the moment
hey dude....
i bought the indicators off some dude on the net....not posh same style as theirs....metal material....
ive been through about 10 pairs of chinese plastic indicators so no more! haha
larger sprocket will affect the gearing/acceleration/cruising rpm of the bike....
the previous owner had changed gearing and it was way too short....(when i was cruising at 110k's it would be at about 5/6k rpms's)
that is way too high for my liking. plus the motor has heaps of torque and now i can make the most of it with the wider spread gears!
dont worry mate, in 6 months time you'll look back at all the shit you've learned and go.......shit i now know so much more! but i still really know nothing!
peace
thanks man......i plan on disturbing the peace on this thing when its done....cant wait....
had some more good progress today and yesterday....
trimmed up the front fairing to give it a faster look!
moved some stuff around
and yesterday i registered the vtr!!!
i got sick of not riding, so even thought its rainy and cold i want to ride....
i also thought......hmmm lets get rid of these fairings...
so off they came and i chucked on a 7inch headlight ebay jobby, and put a smaller brakelight in/meshed it off..... eventually will do custom subframe and tail....(cafe style) and do a single front radiator conversion using the right radiator.
just using the standard guages at the moment but was looking to get a small computer....
maybe an acewell.....
so i will eventually do more to the vtr once the kz is finished...
and i dont want to take over this thread with that bike.....but heres 2 photo's.....
had a little more progress today!
fitted up a new electronics tray and trimmed a little off the loom, certainly no pro job but the tray works very well....
i used the airbox tabs which are there as standard... so no welding to the frame was required.....
its bolted up so tight it would actually brace the frame mildly....
also gave the rear frame section a clean and matt blackin'
check it
as she sits! mockin'
just have to do the valve clearances.....and the engine parts are ready to be bolted back up.....
cant wait
did the valve clearances today......
and its like it just came out of the factory!!!
so put on some fresh cases.....etc
heres some pics of whats to come!!!!
im going for shades as opposed to colours
The colors, er... um... shades, look great. I love the wind deflector / headlight assembly. I'm looking forward to the "completion" and pics of the whole package.
sinbad, excuse me if I missed it somewhere in this thread, but what was your source for the new engine bolt kit, and what was the cost? I have several nearly-stripped phillips heads on mine, and I'm considering swapping them all.
