Ladies Lead

I'm on board! :)
Nice to see that there are many more girls here who do not only love to ride a bike but also get their hands dirty.

Hehe so true...

'bout sticking to this DTT-forum long enough...sectretly reading a lot here for more than a year now, but not so active in posting ;) ...maybe that's what a lot of girls do?

i feel like it is, because i've been reading and snooping arpund for a long time but i've only made a membership a few months ago and started posting now that i'm looking at bikes.

Lurking: verb. To observe without interacting. To exist unobserved or unsuspected.

Odd... the Restraining Orders have always called that Stalking

;D ;D ;D

Maybe if we had a sub forum for the ladies then we could get more to post and hang around with us? Personally i would like to see more just because I want to see what styling cue that would be brought in by them. Plus a woman that rides and works on her own bike to me is well hot, lol.

You know what would happen if there was a subforum for the ladies? It would be full of guys! We fellas enjoy contributions from the girlz, especially when working on bikes.

MotoLady. She a member of my riding group here in (Portland) Oregon. Very cool chick.

It does seem that most female members last about three or four months, than fade away. Other members and I have talked about how to generate a stronger female presence here before, but nothing ever comes of it. We can all agree that the motorcycle world is predominantly male, and this forum is just a reflection of that fact.

That said, it would be cool to have more women here to change the feel a bit. There are only two kinds of female riders (with a couple notable exceptions) in my area. The HD wife, who dutifully chugs along behind her husband from bar to bar, clad in a too small tank top and doo rag. And, the random sportbike girl. You know them by there all pink jacket/helmet combo, and the painted up bike that they put 6 miles a year on.

I dont know any real local women who are interested in vintage customs, or god forbid, actually turning a wrench. Seems to me that if we could bolster a stronger female following here, that may spill over into the real world.

Or not, what the hell do i know? Hahahaha...

im not married and i hate pink :) looks like you found your exception! as for the wrench thing, i'm learning and eventually (hopefully) i'll get there. although sometimes it would help to have some of that brute strength that men seem to have when "wrenching" things. my upper body strength is pathetic.

You don't need more strength, just more leverage.

“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.” -- Archimedes

Youre WILLING to learn. Thats the key...

Ive met a few local women who ride older bikes, and they not only dont know ANYTHING about the mechanics of their machine but have zero interest in learning. I hear "thats HIS job" or "as long as it looks pretty Im happy" all the time.

The couple of female riders I do know that do work on or at least maintain their own bikes are a breath of fresh air.

If nobody here has ever had the fortune of working on a bike project along side an invariably cooler headed, and much more logical female counterpart DO IT ASAP. Seriously, its a real treat to dodge the "I am man, grunt, roar" shit every once and awhile and work on something with a woman who knows whats what or is at least willing to learn.

Brendami, you should talk directly with Tim and see if maybe you can head up a female centric board here. Would be cool if ya threw together a patch design for the ladies among us as well. Every other (almost) sub group has one...

(Theres a thread somewhere with all of them)

Awww man... If my ribs didnt hurt so bad Id smack you. Haha.

Now that I got the obligatory douchebaggery out of the way, I second the idea. Anything that works to bring a more diverse group of people here can't be such a bad idea.

I love working on my bike, my husband helps me a great deal. He does not ride at this time. We work well together he tells me how he thinks it done I read in the manual and we both do the work. I do find I have to make him stop working and let me do the work. I want to understand my bike and be able to fix things when they break without waiting on him or AAA.

I don't see a need for a woman sub forum but others may enjoy it.

I wear pink, will have nail polish and a purse/bag that matches my bike there will be grease under the polish and tools in the bag. It won't be easy to find but I will, it is part of the fun. It's like gone in 60 seconds with the lipstick that matches the car.

I would love to see more posts from the ladies, but they have to have a "thick skin" and a well developed sense of humor. 8) Otherwise the neanderthalic leg-humpers scare them off. (or they walk away shaking their head in disgust) ::)
