Lamest question on DTT

I have searched Google with little to no results but when working around the headlight bucket the bulb fell off the tool bench and broke. I have no idea what size/wattage('73 cb750) I need. Id like to run a brighter bulb but stay era specific. Nothing HID etc.

I appreciate the help.

35/35W is stock. On these old bikes, 60/55W bulbs tend to roast stock stators. Either keep the stock bulb size or invest in an aftermarket high output stator.

There are no lame questions, only lame answers ;) Thankfully Bobdot does not give lame answers.

Except the part about roasting stators. :p

In all seriousness, attempting to draw too much current won't roast your stator. The battery will supply what the alternator cannot. Once the battery is drained, then the bike will die.

So while upgrading to a high wattage bulb won't break anything, it's best to lower your current requirements elsewhere if a bright light is what you're after.

I've worked a couple bikes with this problem. The old stators aren't great to begin with and were made for very specific load specs. When they have to work extra to keep up with a battery thats draining faster due to greater draw of the high wattage lamps they have a tendency to over heat, degrade the winding insulation, and short out.

CB750 will run a 60/55w no problem as long as you don't spend too much time below 2,000 rpm
It was an 'upgrade' for 500/550 f

It ay have been able to handle a 60/55W new, but by now most bikes of this era have significant corrosion in the harness which degrades everything.

Be aware that corrosion in connectors and wires adds resistance, which usually generates heat and saps current.

Go over everything carefully and clean/fix any nastiness and double check all the grounds.

Best of luck!

Sorry for the late reply to say thank you. all the wires have been gone over and checked, even used dielectric grease. Ill probly just pick up a 35/35W bulb just to put in there. Ill figure out where to go at a later date.

Will this bulb do?
