LED blikers and single idiot light

I have converted bike top use LED blikers and as long as they have 2 idiot lights ( L and R) or no idiot lights, they are easy to wire with a suitable flasher can.

In the shop now is a bike with single idiot light and it works fine with old style incandescent bulbs but with LEDs it flashed both sides together. That was interesting but not what the doctor ordered. There are probably other solutions but I happened to have a pile of diodes lying around so I modified the harness to take two diodes and now it works like a charm.

What they do is to allow power to flow to the flasher and to the idiot light but stops it from lighting up the other side. Took about 15 minutes to work up a solution (I'm slow) and the same to cut into the harness and solder in the diodes and test it.

Could you post a picture or diagram of where you put the diodes. I'm not quite sure how to do this so I've been running LED's all around except the rear signals to allow for the flashers to work correctly.

I can't draw, so let's try words.

The idiot light has two leads, one connected to the left circuit and one to the right. Cut both leads. Connect a diode to each where they come from the flashers (test the direction before you solder them) and connect the "output" side of the diodes together and attach that to one side of the idiot light. Attach some new cable to the other side of the idiot light and connect that to ground.

On this bike, I had to remove the two pins that go to that idiot light from the connector and splice it on the bulb side of the connector. No change to the main loom side of that connector. I'll take a photo and try to describe what you are looking at.

If you want to save yourself the trouble next time, we have you covered:

Plug and play diode setups for $7 or pair it with an LED flasher for $13. :)

Only $7 ???. I'm getting them from SparckMoto next time I need them. Here's a short write up to show what's involved in doing it from scratch. http://pinkpossum.com/Lights.htm

Using a SparckMoto diode sub harness the principle is the same, but it is tidier.
