LED Light installation.

I remember reading somewhere that LED's are hard to install on older bikes. Something about load equalizers or something? Can someone shed some LIGHT on this situation for me???

Thanks!

well here's the issue, the blinker relay on old bikes is actually a piece of metal that bends to break contact when it gets hot... genius huh? well for that day and age, i guess it was, but today with LED lights, we get the same light output with 1/10th of the current... and you guessed it, less current means less HEAT, so if the blinker works at all, it will flash every minute or so... so you'll either need to put some bigassed resistors with a few watts of dissipation ACROSS (not inline) your led lights, or get an electronic winker relay that'll work for leds

Thanks RockCity!

Now the next question is... what are the limitations/requirements/specs that need to be filled in order for one to work with my bike? Can anyone suggest where to get one for my CB360?

What you need is an electronic flasher relay and load equalizers. I made my own load equalizers using this information http://bareasschoppers.com/loadeq/ but have yet to install them. I made my own LED tail light and turn signals. I am getting away with running just the electronic flasher relay with only the front led's installed. When I tried to install the rear, all of the signals came on steady versus blinking. I can post some photos when I get around to installing the rears and equalizers. I may have seven bucks in to the equalizers, much less than what is being charged for them.

With the electronic flasher I have there's no nead for any load adjusters (maybe it's just my bike??)... Works with the stock indicators, just rear and just front (or both), also with or without LED bulbs.

This is a quote from another site I post on:
(note, the wiring is for a seca / maxim, but is probably similar for any 3-prong yamaha)...

Here are some pics of the flasher unit, for those who may need to spot one on the shelf when ever in need. Seems to be of good quality and heavy duty like the OEM part.

The wire colors go to the prongs as follows:
X ----> Br (brown)
P ----> G/Y (yellow w/ green stripe)
l -----> Br/W (brown w/ white stripe)

Thanks again Sc----
