Leper Messiah-1978 CB750: re-intro

So this is a re-intro. Here's what I started with (sorta-it had a stock rear fender, bars, turn signals, and 16' rear wheel):

and here's where I am today:

I stole Whiteflag's idea and I cut the cross brace on my bars. Next up is beefier, taller tires (photoshop some in if you get bored ;D ) and new forks with dual disk down the way. I know my 750 is too wide across to be a true track bike, but it sure is fast and fun! 8)

very earth friendly-handmade from recycled materials ;):

Throw some Distanzias or Pirelli MT43s on that and you're on your way!

working on it. Might switch to an 18 front rim first, though. Dual front disks are on the way, too.

Re: Leper Messiah: re-intro

I'm really liking this bike... looks like it wants to be ridden.

BTW -- Leper Messiah. So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands? ;)

Love it.

Re: Leper Messiah: re-intro

So I haven't done much other than ride my bike lately. It has given me time to think about what I'd like to do given money, time, and materials:

-New clutch perch, handles and clean up/delete starter/headlight/turn switches
-Hoop the rear and frame clean-up/grind/repaint silver
-New seat to match the hoop
-Weld a new bottom to the gas tank that uses total capacity and allows for the frame brace I cut out (but kept ;) )
-Drill front brake rotor

Re: Leper Messiah: re-intro

My CB400F may end up the same way soon.

Questions:

What size headlight?
What happened the front brake switch?
What length rear shocks?

-The headlight is 5 3/4: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5-3-4-side-mount-headlight-cafe-Racer-bobber-chopper-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e52bac20QQitemZ360327130144QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

-The front brake is stock, so not sure what you're not seeing?

-The shocks are the non-chrome version of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chrome-Motorcycle-Shocks-Fit-Honda-CB750-CB550-CB450-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e5b68519QQitemZ360336229657QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Re: Leper Messiah: re-intro

On my CB400F, the brake switch Ts into the line on the lower fork clamp. Yours doesn't appear to do that.

Re: Leper Messiah: re-intro

Yeah, not sure about that-I take it by "switch" you're talking about the mechanism that triggers the tail light, which I think is up in the handle bar switch on a 78' cb750 (my bike). Do you have a pic of what you're talking about? I'm curious now.

Kev, there are two types of brake switch. Older bikes often used a hydraulic switch and that was usually fitted into a junction block for the hydraulic lines on the lower triple clamp.

Modern bikes use a small reed switch in the lever perch.

The frame is finally hooped and fender remounted- time to pull out the skate deck seat trick. Next up is a new oval tail light to go between hoop and fender (please excuse the funky old seat):

... And here's a pic with the finished seat:

Thanks to the fellow DTT that have gone before me built skateboard seats. This one is made out of Maple grommet board, the padding from the old seat, and the vinyl from the old seat (66 Buick Riviera seat material). I need to work out the nut situation under the seat. I lost one (with a lock washer) on the way to work because all I could do was hand tighten it. My idea for that is replace the nuts with wing nuts and lock washers. Any thoughts?

Time to focus on the headlight...

I was just gonna mention that. The chrome headlight and ears stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe going black will keep the eye from focusing on them...but it does stick pretty far out.

It's a solid looking bike that can be built by an every-man. The tires aren't modern, but they are better than Firestones, and the bike looks like it could actually be ridden for a few days without being super uncomfortable.
