I initially fell in love with the gauge and toggle setup that Ringo had used on the Gulf bike. I am thinking of doing a small aluminum dash in between the gauges like his. I picked up a set of decent toggles from Radio shack. I would need to get the rubber waterproof covers for them although my goal is to stay out of the rain as a whole when this thing is done.
Would love to see examples of what people have done with dash and gauges. advice on what I need to do to change from a key to a two toggles switch setup like Ringos is also appreciated.
What ideas do you have? should I keep the key? or add the small toggle idit light dash? If I go to the dual dash toggle I will use a hidden toggle for a security power kill. I rarely have my nike where theft would be an issue but the hidden toggle would add some piece of mind.
Let me see what you all have done please.

Here is what I am working with currently

Hey GK, don't know if this changes anything, but I actually did keep the key/ignition switch. The toggles are just for lights (3-position) and kill switch (2-position). So it's definitely possible to have the best of both worlds...
That may change my whole plan. I don't know where to move the key and retap on the wiring harness. Looks (I know now, just appears) that you had a master power toggle and then one for your lighting. That was kinda the plan I was gonna go with. I need to figure out what wires are in the keyed toggle harness. The lights on the GS450 do not kick a relay and stay on during the starting process currently.
I figured I would imporve and kill two birds with one stone by using the above meantioned setup. Is it possible?
I don't see why not! I've seen people use a toggle switch instead of the key. Usually somewhere semi-hidden. ;D
I can't say I've seen a combined ignition and kill switch though. But I'm sure it's possible.
One of the more savvy electrical guys will probably chime in soon...because beyond what I did, it's all smoke and mirrors to me.
Edit: I should probably ask that a combined ignition and kill switch is what you're talking about right? If so, and if it's going to be hidden (to protect from theft), it might be a risky move. Having a kill switch quickly accessible, on the dash or bar, could prevent a wreck if your throttle sticks open, for example.
Thanks ringo. I was told there were 4 wires in the harness. Got dark and havent been able to strip it back. I wanted one toggle to be used for an on/off to the origional starter button. The other toggle to be and on/off for the lighting
Oh OK. I know they make 'momentary' toggle switches. 3-position, can be used like off-on-start, and it springs back to "on" when released from "start".
That may be the way i go down the road. With the 450 I have the left control has the choke, horn, turn built in so I am kinda stuck with it. I I can't truely clean the bars up I might as well leave the iggy on the throttle side as well and just clean them up later.
Gk I'm wanting the same thing (sort of) I want to replace the key with a on/ off toggle and use an auto ignition in place of the starter button. Probably just wire everything into the auto ignition. I am up to the 2 toggle system on/ off in place of the key and a momentary for the start. have you done this yet? If so post a diagram.
The left gauge is the air/fuel ratio and the right is the tach. I'm only using the trail tech vapor for temp and speed. Left switch is for the headlight and the right is the main switch with a bright led to let me know its on.
I was going to do something similar on my 400f but theres really not room for a dash with the setup im currently running.
Eventually ill probably make a new headlight mount to free up some space for a dash but im happy enough at the moment.
