"log" intake with single carb for CB550?

Just boucing an idea off you guys....

I wonder how a "log" style intake with a single carb would work on my CB550? Use one CV CArb like seen on alot of Harley-Davidsons......seems like it would make life alot easier. Of course, you lose the cool look of multiple carbs.

seriosuly thinking it over....any ideas?

It would probably screw your performance up, but if you can work through it, hopefully with some dyno time I don't see why it wouldn't work. After all, 4 cyl cars used to have a single carb. You could run a nice SU carb, that would look wicked!

Check out this bike...it's a CB550 top end on custom cases, looks great but you never know how well these show bikes are tuned.

I just picked up a Yamaha Virago and have been poking around some sites and a good number of guys fab up a manifold to accommodate one carb. They say it helps performance if you are one who lives in low RPM's while you ride, but suggest not converting if you love to hit redline. I would think you would need a larger carb to get a richer mixture through to all cylinders.

It's less trouble to use original carbs ::)
The entire purpose of having an inline 4 is to use rpm with multiple carbs.
If you only need 15~20 hp buy a smaller bike (or ride on lawnmower ;D)
