Long time lurker, new poster - Illinois

Hi all. I have been lurking, reading, and learning on the forum for months. I'm 40 years old from St Louis, MO, currently calling Peoria, IL home, and have been riding since 16. My first bike was a Suzuki GS500 in 1990, so I guess I've always had a thing for naked bikes. I just started my first home build, turning 2 donor cb750's into one (1974 rolling chassis, 1976 SS) . I'm just about far enough along on the build to start a thread about it, which I will try to do in the next week. There is a 1968 Yamaha DT-1 sitting in the garage waiting for her turn after the CB is finished. Feel free to comment, criticize, and suggest as necessary. Thanks!

My only criticism is that you didn't post any pictures. Let's go.

:)

Welcome.

Fair enough. I was going to wait til the build thread, but here are some sneak peeks of the progress. I just detabbed the frame and cut a few bits for welding, but no pics of that yet. front forks are rebuilt also, no pics of that either. Be gentle! It's my first time..

awesome looking bike! I'm about 2 hours north in a small town called Sandwich, maybe have heard of our stupid big fair.

Thanks! Long way to go still, also finished the final wetsand/buff/wax on the tank so it's much more shiny now. Yeah I have heard of Sandwich, had to google the fair.

Really like the photos, way cool. I skimmed a bit.. I got a random headache just now, but that tank looks like the same as my 78'cb750. I hand pounded the side walls in and spent hours making it look just right. Ran out of time on it, money.. blahh.. but your photos are bringing me back man, way cool!!! keep it up!!!

Thanks! I am on a tight budget as well, I'm getting married in a few months. I was going to change out the tank, but this meaty one grew on me (plus it holds a lot of fuel). Hoping to have it done in time for spring. My friend is helping me weld up the frame etc tomorrow!
