longwaybackhome's CB 350 K4 project in Finland

Good day everyone,

Bought a complete and running CB 350 K4 last spring. The engine sounds just great and otherwise runs well but there is a short circuit somewhere always when I use the rear brake so the bike dies and I have to change a fuse.

Showed the bike to my kids and then brought it to my small "storage" which also doubles as a workshop...

Summar and autumn has been rather busy so I have hardly touched the bike in 8 months but now during the holidays I have had some time to start planning the project. I have no intentions to build a showbike but it should be a daily runner (on a tight budget anyway). Maybe my daughters will ride it in a few years..? It should look old and I do not want any billet parts etc. on it. Most chrome is in fairly good shape.

First priority is getting brakes and suspension in order and sorting out the electrics. Then some issues related to myself feeling more comfortable on the bike (I am 2 meters tall!) and finally the cosmetics.

My list for this winter looks as follows:
- front brake overhaul
- rear brake overhaul
- front suspension overhaul
- new (longer?) rear shock absorbers
- sort out electrical issue
- new lower handlebars (the original ones look terrible)
- cut the rear fender since it is anyway cracked
- new taillight

If I have enough time I will continue with the following:
- Building a new 2 to 1 exhaust with the silencer under the engine (current ones makes me :-[)
- Building old school rearsets (Anyone having a good idea for the rear brake arrangement which seems to be a challenge!?)
- new seat (higher?)
- slightly raising the rear end of the tank?
- new indicators

I want to spend some time on the road in summer 2013 (maybe doing the ton?) and I have a busy spring ahead so possibly some of the work will be done only next winter or the winter thereafter....

I am looking for a bigger tail light... ::)

... and bigger indicators... ;D

Once I have sorted out the above I will move on to "stage 2" which will involve a complete reassembly of the bike, detabbing and painting the frame and all bits and pieces. From the looks of the electrical system I will have to redo that as well... Stage two may happen already in winter 2014 but at latest 2018 (when my older daughter turns 18).

Now I just need to figure out under which "Big Arse Project" board I should post my thread...

Happy New Year to all of you!
