Magna not starting

Fat man on a little bike
Hey guys,
I need some help with my grandfather's Magna 700. It started and ran (rough) a year ago, and I got back to working on it this summer since I am home from school. I finally got the hydraulic clutch sorted, and the new pilot screws in to get it running right. I went to start it and... nothing. Battery is charged, starter switch tested good, starter connection looks pristine, fuse is good, solenoid replaced, tried to jump start it, but still nothing. All I get is a click from the solenoid and the tach will jump if I hold it down. One of the strange things is that the headlight and idiot lights will stay dim as though the starter is running. Is there any chance the starter has gone bad from sitting for a year??? I'm just working through the components of the circuit and that's all I can think of at this point.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

Have you checked plugs for gas and spark? Dim lights sounds like a battery on it's last legs

It's unlikely that something mechanical has gone bad in the last year of sitting. Try a new battery, also might have to open up those crabs

The issue is that it's not cranking at all. Plugs are new and carbs are clean. I though battery too but we charged it, and tried jumping it with a car but got no different results. The lights are only dim after hitting the starter switch. Battery is also only a year old.

Have you jumped the solenoid?
Take a flat head screwdriver and connect the two lugs on the starter and see what happens.

Jumped it and got sparks but nothing from the starter. Lights seemed dimmer, so I'm recharging the battery. It shouldn't be losing charge that fast, so I figure there's something funny going on with teh wiring or the battery is toast, which would suck. Considering we bought it a year and a half ago or so.

A few full discharges, below 10.5 volts, can easily kill these batteries. I'd suspect that first. Does this have a pull the clutch in and make sure the kickstand is down procedure? If so I'd suspect switches in one of those locations. Worst case scenario try bump starting it.

Jumping the solenoid should bypass all the safety switches and turn over the motor. It won't start without spark and gas but it should turn over.
I'm guessing really dead battery as well.
To confirm, hook a car battery to it and try again.

Battery has definitely been discharged at least a couple times, so that's probably it. It's acting funky on the charger as well, think its just another sign. Starting was tried with the Clutch in and kickstand in both positions.
I'll probably just replace the battery, but it will have to wait until thanksgiving, I left for school today.
Thanks for the responses!
