Matt's CB360 Cafe Build

And it begins - my CB360 cafe build. But first, a little backstory to set the scene.

I initially got my CB360 from my neighbor when I was in high school. He said, "It's been sitting on the side of my house for 20 years. If you can get it running you can have it." I'm thinking, "Sweet! Free motorcycle!" So I set to dismantling the bike. The motor just needed a head gasket and an oil change but the electrical on the frame was shot. Being a somewhat impatient high schooler my dad bought another CB360 that had a blown motor. We took the good motor out of the bad frame and put it in the better frame and viola! I had my first motorcycle.

We then found out that that frame was slightly tweaked from the previous owner dropping the bike (and then I dropped it ) and when I went to college Mom said "You can't have a motorcycle in LA! You'll die!" So the bike sat outside in Northern California getting rained on and rusted...

I just graduated from UC Riverside last June (and found a full time job right away) and now with a good job, the space, and interest I got my CBs down from Northern Cali and am going to move the motor back to its original frame (which I've completely stripped) and build it from the ground up.

The good frame, and the motor in the tweaked bad frame bike.

My plans:
Front end conversion (contemplating a Suzuki SV650 front end)
Mikuni carbs
New exhaust
Paint
Clubmans
Rearsets
New gauges and controls
Custom wiring, seat, and battery tray from Kott Motorcycles
New tank of some sort (contemplating a CB200 tank)
Electronic Ignition

Anyone have any ideas/done a front end conversion on a 360? What did you swap to and how did the install go?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated and I'll be updating the thread every time I work on the bike. I'm on the road about a week a month for work though, so there may be longer chunks of time between updates. And of course, if anyone knows where to get some sweet deals on parts I'm all ears :D

Hey bud I see your new so am I! I also have similar plans for my cb360. Just got her two days ago and ive already got the frame stripped and blasted and am waiting on my manual so i can tear into the engine. Unfortunately the bike came with no front brakes so I figured I might as well go all out and do a swap to something newer with dual discs. Sorry I cant help ya out but whoever does will be helping me a great deal too! Look forward to seeing your progress!

Like the idea with the 200 tank, it would look even cooler (I think) if you elongated it, Nice start. I also have a 360 8)

Thank you my friend :) Unfortunately I haven't had the time or funds to work on her recently. My car decided to start leaking oil from the head gasket and into the coolant. BMW really does stand for bring my wallet... :-\

Yea I know what you mean my 86 porsche 944, blow a gasket, changed it and still has problems, been off the road for about 6 months. My brother has 2 BMWs (87 325is and 97 BMW 318i which he is putting a M52 in it) out back that are both being work on. Hope you can get them both fixed. Good Luck

i wouldnt go with an sv650 front end as the people who have them (myself included) think they are a bit squishy. Gsxr 600 front end would bolt up if an sv650 front end would.
