MGD's 1989 Honda Hawk GT650

It's alive!!

I had to put on the old battery box, but to ride it around was totally worth it.

I got to warm it up so I could change the oil/filter, and made sure the fan kicked in at about mid way on the gauge.

Seems to be solid. Brakes are nice. Tires seem balanced.

Sounds deeper in person, I'm sure it will turn some Harley people's heads.

Currently working with a great machinist. A little hint, we will be creating a new product that will eliminate some zip ties from my current set up.

Okay the zip ties were never a permanent solution, but I wanted to ride the bike for once. Stay tuned.

I replaced the drilled top triple for solid one.

Looks a lot cleaner now. Plus some skull grips to add to the front end.

Got the angle grinder out tonight.

For now I'll keep the passenger peg mounts until I finalize my exhaust ideas.

Also the plastic battery box mounts will help until I fab/buy a smaller box for a 7Ah AGM.

Working on an idea to put a larger engine in this little frame.

100 more cc's would be really nice on a 390lb bike.

really cool project, would love to find one those swingarms for a bike im working on. nice work

They are on ebay all the time. Just not sure they will fit what your working on. If you need measurements, let me know.

Not a whole lot going on right now.

I received the tail light, and sanded/polished off the Stanley embossing.

Basically gave it a good cleaning as it had some signs of wear on it.

An Integrator for directionals and brake lights seems like a win in my book.

I may use LED bulbs to keep up the new look of bikes today, anyone know what bulbs should be in this originally?

I'm ready for my Race Tail any day now. I guess I could start stripping the tank and fender.

I was able to get the bugs worked out on the tail light wiring. Nothing a little solder couldn't fix. Then I ran around town for like 35-40 miles. It didn't make any unwanted noises, besides the the front brake pads seating in. Ran great, I may tighten the chain a little.

Great build, MGD. I'm a big fan of the NT650, I put a few miles on one a while back and really enjoyed it a bunch. I don't know if any of the parts are compatable, but the 800cc engine that's in the PC800 Pacific Coast sure looks a bunch like this one, once you get all the plastic body work off. It may be worth looking into the chances of switching to the top end from that lump. The PC800 may not be the sexiest bike ever designed but the things had lots of go and would run and run and run with nothing more than basic maintenance.

Thanks! I was looking into some of the early 2000's Shadow engines. The displacement is bigger, but these Hawk Heads are built for more rpm then the cruiser style engines. Food for thought no doubt about it.

When I was riding w/ the HSTA I had friends who rode their PC two-up at 80 to 90 MPH all day on twisty roads and the thing always kept right up with the STs, BMWs, and sport bikes.
