mikuni throttle cable fittings

just got the mikuni kit from dime city cycles for my 360. came with a two into one cable and some ferrules and fittings:

my problem is i'm not sure what goes where...

i was told soldering was necessary but i'm not sure what i'm soldering. i'm not sure how the two cables attach to the carb needles or what any of the bits except for the ferrules do or where they go.

help would be much appreciated as i'm stoked to get these carbs on! thanks!
 
The 2 small brass ends get soldered onto the cable ends that connect to the carb slides. The larger brass end and screw end are for the throttle side (they give you 2 sizes to cater for different throttle types).

The ferrules go between the cable sheathes and the splitter.

Now the tricky bit is you have to measure, cut and solder the cables so they fit on the carbs and can still be adjusted to balance the carbs (there should be a screw-in adjuster under the rubber on the top of each carb). Too short and the slides won't close, too long and the cables will be slack and the slides won't open.

any tips?
does one side need to be longer than the other to account for the cables running not perfectly down the center of the bike?
 
if you've got your old cables, best to take the dimensions off them. As for soldering don't use rosin cored solder, try to get solid core.

use a cold chisel on a hard surface to cut the cables and sheath. It won't fray the cables like cutting them will.

cool, that was helpful.

watching youtube videos everybody's using torches... will a soldering iron do the job? hope so 'cause that's all i got! soldering tips would be appreciated! thanks again guys.
 
All you need is a propane tank and a tip. Less than 20 bucks. Find a kit in the plumbing section at Home Depot , Lowes, or any hardware store. Save yourself the hassle, a soldering will not cut it.
 
Soldering iron is much better than a torch IMHO but not as good as a solder pot which I saw a picture off somewhere...

What I do is to lay the cables in place and work out what length you want for the two carb ends and then cut and solder them. Then I fit the cable around the tunnel and cut and solder the throttle drum end. I use a dremmel cut off wheel but it melts the nylon inner, so that has to be cleaned out.

They make cheap butane torches that work alright.
 
if you're doing a lot of cable cutting you should go to a bicycle shop (i work at one). you can get cable cutters there that don't fray the ends when cut. also you can get more housing and with a little grinding you could even modify the heads of bicycle cable to work for throttle cable.
