Modified Cafe for the salt flats.

I'm working on getting to the salt in August 2012 (as in 6 months from now) to run at the BUB Speed Trials. Probably just 'run what you brung' to start as with a 750cc overhead cam XS650, I'm competing against all other OHC 750cc bikes I think in SCTA terms, so not much point going for a 'record' (although those tin plates they issue for the runs are kind of nice looking...)

Still going to explore running at Speed Week but BUB is motorcycle only and is well attended. Hoping to get a bunch of people out there and make an 'event' out of it.

Thanks. Which safety concerns? Hmm... probably all of them. Need a SNELL rated helmet, no steering dampers, no kill switch, et al. Lot's of guys/gals are declined every year. Plenty of folks just show up without reading the rule book thinking they can just give er. (like me). Usually the declinees just grab a stretch of salt just off of the track and open things up. Problem with that is if they catch you, you'll be promptly escorted off of the park and banned. (They first have to catch you and secondly have to remember you next year.)

I get all the safety concerns. They put them there to keep from killing ourselves; which plenty of guys/gals who are supposed to be racing end up facing every year. I think a couple of guys might have been killed last year. They're listed in the rule book I believe. I'll have to check. My wife likes to hide things so I have no idea where mine is.

God hates a coward. :)

Cheers.

I cant wait to see the pics Tim. Good luck and try to ride as close to insanity as you can without killing yourself.

Been a while on this build. Decided to ignore CADD and just fecking build it. Modified GS100. 200 mph contender.

Crazy loves company.

I admire you building This, I hope it does take you up past 200mph. Any secrets going into the motor? any plans for a fairing?

Reach for it Brother I hope you make your dream come true.
...but DAMN that looks heavy as HELL and I am not seeing the benifit of so much iron.
Curiosity is getting the best of me here as I have been a closet Speed Week Freak for decades.

I thought round tube was the stronger/lighter option?

Round tubing does is stronger in some regards, but our chief concern is for the up and down motion during high speed. At that speed we'd rather over engineer it than under. Bear in mind, we're venturing into uncharted waters in our books. In fact, we haven't found too many bikes that have stretched the front of the bike. Most of what we've come across have stretched swing arms and engine bay. As for the weight, it's not as heavy as you might think. I don't have the numbers at the moment as it's out at my dads place, but I recall us having this conversation, comparing the numbers and noting that the difference was minor. With the addition of a partial fairing (modified streamliner class) we should be able to get to or at least near to 200 mph.

Roll the dice. See what happens. Thanks much guys.

I get noivous (nervous) at 90 on my 350F! I don't trust the tires that are on it now to go faster haha! The new bike better not feel like that!

Bad ass! Im a salt freak too....doesn't hurt living so close. I will definitely be looking for you speedweek 2014
