Mounting a DCC Original Ribbed Leather Wrapped "Cafe" Seat

Been Around the Block
Has anyone mounted one of these on a stock frame and stock tank setup? I emailed Chris over at DCC, he sent me some shots of how they do it in-house. Problem is I don't have access to a welder, and I'm attaching to a stock frame not a rear loop. Figured I'd post the pics he sent for anyone else who wants them but also ask if anyone had any advice on mounting to a sock frame and stock tank.

Kiley (Kanticoy) on the forum runs that seat on his CB400F using the stock hinges.

Shoot him a PM, and I'm sure he'd help you through it.

This is going to be difficult to explain without pics, but here it goes:

I mounted this seat onto my CL360 by getting a long thick strip of metal from Home Depot (link below) and cutting it then bending it (by brute force) around the shape of the fender (looks like a hoop). Then I bent the ends of the bar straight and drilled 4 holes (2 for the pre drilled 6mm holes into the seat and two onto the bent part, drilled 2 matching holes into the fender and stuck longer bolts through and attached with wing nuts.

In summary: I made a total of one cut, drilled 4 holes and had the seat mounted. If you are interested in pics later, I take some tonight.

sphynx, thanks for the tip, and sweet looking CL. Justin, I'll track down Kiley as running it with stock hinges would be ideal.

Thanks a lot everybody.

Hey man, got your PM, figured I'd answer in the thread so people could search options. The CB250 is the same frame as the 350, correct? I welded up a bracket that the seat mounted to in order to get it to use the stock hinges and latches. I know that doesn't help you due to the fabrication. If the 250 and 350 are the same, I have a 350 here and could build the bracket for you and send it back. I'd be glad to help if you want to go that way, it's a 30 minute job.

I appreciate the insight, for sure. I'm going to go ahead and buy the seat and see what I can do my own without putting anyone out. If I get the seat and feel like it's over my head I may ping you back and see what we can work out. I'd be happy to pay you for whatever you helped with, until then I'm gonna see what I can tackle.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas and options, and thanks Kanticoy for the offer. Very much appreciated.

The seat is nice because you have many different ways to get it installed. Like you I didn't have any welding equipment or friends so I thought long and hard and researched how people in general install their seats. You'll get it in!

No problem man! I don't need any money if you decide to go that route. Just pay to ship back and forth, but for sure see what you can do on your own. That's how ya learn! Here's some pics of my mounting set up.

Man, for such a hot looking bike, it sure is slow ;)

Do what Kiley did - having it flip up is awesome. Kiley should start selling a kit on DCC for the seat ;)

I agree! So many people buy fromDCC and what most of the seats loase is the easy access hinges. I know a lot of people use velcro and other stuff to easily remove, but I'm picky. I'm a fan of having ALL parts of the bike have the same amount of finish on them. They don;t have to be perfect by any means, but I don't feel as good about having areas that no one should see. And to me thought the velcro is very functional, it's just not as polished. It's just my own weirdness that leads me to spend tons of extra hour chasing down solutions that no one will ever care about, haha.

Awesome pics Kantikoy, great insight. And Tim's right, slick bike.

I'm in the same boat as you! I bought the tan ribbed seat from DCC this past fall. It's been sit'n in my closet since.:( spring is right around the corner and i'm panicking. No welder, not grinder...:/ i want to keep the hinges on my stock frame as well. Kanti, may i ask if you've done any chopping of your frame at all for the fitting of your seat? I own a 73 cb450 and it's got the bracket in the back of the seat frame and it seems to me like t would be in the way. some of the pictures i've seen here clearly show the seat installed on bikes with the stock fender still attatched. i appologize for hijacking your post, but i just had to comment after seeing the post. I've been looking all over the place for this specific seat installation as well!

Mine keeps the original fender:

I welded two tabs in the back for the bolts in the seat and a cross brace near the front to slide the clips under.

I know this doesn't help much if you don't want to weld, but I don't see to many other options.

I'm in the some boat, I know what I want to do, but wiithout the proper tools, I'm sort of SOL.

my local bike shop quoted me at 150-200 bucks to do some of the welding and or mounting.

I've been considering gutting a stock seat and throwing epoxy on it doing some frankenstein bolt work on it. Has anyone done that? I'd hate to go through with it & either A: have it look like shit or B: get a sketchy while trying to do the ton.

Maybe I'll just send it over to Kanti if the offers still open. I wonder if I can send a 6-pack in the mail with it?

Kanti's setup looks fantastic, though. Real clean, how that bike is supposed to look.

Good post.

If any of you are close to Memphis and need to make a frame like that under your seat... I've got plenty of flat stock and a brand new wire feed, plus all the grinders, cut off saws and such. Shop rate is cheap...kick in what you can toward replacement materials. We can fire up one of the forges if need be for any truly off the wall stuff, but you'll need to bring some hard coal, I'm running a bit low.

I'm in South County. I've been to Flying Tiger a few times actually, nice people for sure. I'm going to their vintage bike night event in a few weeks. You in STL?

No worries Stu... I'll just extend the offer to the whole group. I've had to slow my riding down a good bit, only about 100K miles since damaging my spine in 2002, but I still like to work on bikes. And am stalled out on all my projects, money's tight, and I need a few parts that I can't make for myself.
