So I am hooked on this seat, but I am not sure how to mount the back of it. It has some threads build into it, but I'm not totally sure how it will line up with my 1971 CB500F. Ideas? Experienced DTT members?

Thanks

Without posting a photo, are you waiting for someone with exactly the same bike and the same seat to help you? Kind of narrowing down your options.....

Most people need to weld a flat strip across the frame rails to support the seat. This flat bar will need two holes to line up with the seat mount points.

You will need to tack weld something in place and check the fit before you get carried away.

I posted a link to the seat which has pics. You somewhat answered my question with noting to weld a flatbar across the frame. Simple, but that would work fine I guess.

I'm looking to purchase the same seat and mount it to my '76 cb550F.. Which should have similar dimensions.. I was planning on welding a flat bar across the frame and tacking it like that in the front and figuring something out for the back once I get it. My problem is the frame/tank is about 8" wide and the seat from DCC is 6" wide.. How does that look with your bike. Bad?

Can you post a pic of that when you get the seat?

I made a carboard mock-up based on the dimensions. Unless the top is 6" and it spreads pretty wide (which I doubt), then I think it will get hung up on the frame near the tank, preventing it from falling over the side rails as it works its way back. If you look at the last pic with just the seat pan shape, it looks like it would be a close fit though. I am trying to contact DCC to see if I can swing by their shop and try it on my bike before purchasing it.

That would be awesome and if you could post pictures of it just sitting on your frame it will give me a better understanding too!... I havent purchased the seat yet and got a little hung up with some carb troubles and a leaking gas tank :/ Here is to hoping POR-15 is up to the task! But it may be too late for my poor little gas tank.

I am having some carb and petcock issues currently. I talked to them and they are only open until 5 PM on weekdays and they would be MEGA tough to get to before they close, but I might try. If not, I guess I could return it. I may end up going with a seat from Slip Stream, but damn I love this DCC original!!!!

I think with an upswept hoop at the end this seat would look awesome.. I also saw a post from someone who cut an inch off the front of the DCC original to give it more of an 8" clearance near the tank and then reupholstered it. Just an idea, but not sure I would trust my reupholstering job...

Beautiful orange and white tank by the way. My seat purchasing got thwarted until I find a suitable tank I like or mend mine.

Here's the link to the other topic for this seat that's going on right now. Its just sitting of the frame right now, but it looks pretty nice. This one is on my 78' CB550.

Thanks! I've been wanting to see it

Here is a pretty easy and pain free method I used. I am strapping down the seat with an old leather belt. This is on a 76 cb750

The seat comes with two screw holes in the back I believe so there has gotta be some way to screw through the frame and into those nuts/holes, no? And that would prevent the sliding

It does come with screw holes so you could always use that somehow. I went ahead and bought an angled frame loop that I'm putting on next week. The belt thing sure does look cool to me tho. Maybe I'll add one just for style points...

Here is what I went with. I drew up this plate in Solid works and my buddy tossed it on his CNC Plasma table and welded it in for me. The 1" square tube is support for your butt, but not secured yet. I am going to use threaded rubber inserts into the bottom of the seat. And the original rear hoop, or whatever you want to call it was relocated to the very rear of the flat part of the seat bottom. I think the 2 rear supports are almost redundant, but it's done. The two tabs slide into the slots and the rear bolts on.

Oh, and an electronics tray will fit perfectly behind that mounting plate and the middle bar with about 2" of space under the seat.
