Muffler Mystery

I bought a used muffler on ebay for my '75 CB750, it's a Kerker 4-1. The guy was selling it because he had a DOHC model and it didn't fit his bike because it was built for the SOHC 750... or so he thought. I tried to install the pipes and found the headers weren't long enough. When I lined it up and put the screws in I was at least half an inch short. I could fit my pinky between the pipe and the engine block! I was wondering if I needed new flanges to make these pipes work, or if I have the wrong pipes entirely. I looked for a serial number to do some research and I found 465-21 stamped on the headers and a D on the muffler, but I had no luck with Google. I have a picture showing the length difference between the flanges I took off and the new headers. If you could help me either figure out what bike these pipes will fit or how I can make them work, I would be ever grateful! I really don't mind selling them but I can't until I know what they'll fit.

Thanks,
Tyler

I'm no expert, but it looks like it's made for the '77-78 SOHC 750's. The earlier models used the clamp type flange, where the later models used the bolt on flange.
Sadly, I don't think they're interchangable.

It would need modification, either the flanges or the headers cut. If I have to go down that road I will but I wanted to make sure these weren't good pipes on the wrong bike because then I could sell them and get the right ones.

Is the spacing between pipes right for 750?
Could be for a 500 or 550f?
Just saw this in a different thread, may be just what you need? (about half way down)
