My 1980 SR250 did not come with a tach - Is it possible to install one ?

So my 1980 SR250 Exciter does not come with a factory Tach. But i have seen other non USA versions that seem to have a factory Tach. Do you guys know if it is possible to install a Tach on my SR250. Is it some sort of hidden feature that you just have to connect yourself (kinda like the kick stand).

Attaching a stock pic from the interweb for reference to what my current speedo looks like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any digital tach should work fine.
It connects to the coil.

I should have also mentioned that i am noob and wouldnt know if there was.

Any help and patience would be greatly appreciated.

I Googled some images and I don't see a mechanical drive hookup for a tach. I think digital is your only option.

The SR250 we get is a 249cc motor with no mechanical tach output. The 239cc motor has a mechanical tach output (cable).

So if you want to have an analog tach (dial) that runs off of the coil and one cylinder, you will be hard pressed to find one. Thumpertalk has a few threads on this.

My tach is installed in my ass and I feel the torque curve fall off. I would like a matching vintage set for my SR250, but I'm not that motivated to pursue it yet.

Another Noob question

What does 'Repinned' refer to in this situation. Is this the factory speedo for the Virago and/or how can i find one like this.

Thanks

Bought it off ebay. Not a factory one. Repinned means you stick a little screwdriver in the back of the connector and mate the wiring to the SR wiring. The connector is the same, but not the wire locations.

So you get a neutral light, turn signal light and high beam light.

So if you want, you can find another yamaha speedo you like and use it. They all use the same cable and ratio. Then mount some lights in the plate you make or in the bolt holes or holes in the actual triple.

Lots of options.
