My CB360 barn find

haha k but i am going to need help on one last thing, it started running crappy out of no where, so i was like WTF? i thought i burned out one of my points because my right side exhaust pipe was not getting hot and there was like no pressure comming out of the right tail pipe so i do a compression check.. over 150 both sides.. i check my spark plugs, everything looked ok, i checked my points, right side would not light up with the test light.. so i thought i burned out the points, i ordered a new set, (should be here this week) only to realize like 2 hours later that the blue lead just got disconected. so while i was in there i checked and set my points gap. I reconnected the blue lead to the coils/condensor and went to fire it up... now its reving super high like i had an airleak or a stuck throttle cabel. i checked my carbs, everything looked normal, i made extra sure they were tight in the intake boots, i dont think its an air leak. i tripple checked my throttle cable and idel screw, no problems there. i am almost positive its my timing. i thought i checked the timeing just like the manual said to, but again gapping my points was the only thing that has changed since it was running good. i now the manual says gapping your points will change your timing, so i did the static timing check with a test light. but... i probably screwed it up some how. i am going to check it again tonight, any thoughts or ideas would be very helpfull. thats the last thing i need to get this bike going. then i promise you a video :)

Idle adjuster is hidden behind clutch cable.
Sounds like something may be jammed in the linkage?

I'll check the linkage again, but I went as far as taking the throttle cable off and kicking it over then trying to work the throttle by hand by pushing on the linkage but it didn't change anything. The carb has the two stops in the linkage I made sure the linkage was all the way down on the bottom stop ( thats the one adjusted by the idle screw right?) big flat head screwdriver opening knobby type thing that you can turn by hand? Ugh I'm so ready for this to be fixed..

Revving doesnt sound like timing issue to me, but what do I know...
Did you adjust your cam chain before messing w timing?
Did you use a strobe light to get the final tweek on your timing? and then check the gaps after. I hate doing timing/points. sometimes, I just get stuck going back and forth between timing and gaps. drives me nuts.
Did you lube your throttle cable?
Make sure cable doesnt twist as you tighten its nuts on the carb bracket.
And your throttle grip is free to turn on the handle bars and in housing.

IDLE FIXED! i rode it to the gas station and filled up,it rode just fine at lower rpms but now it boggs down real bad at mid-high range rpms.... clogged jet maybe?

Take a plug socket for a ride. ;D
Get it where it's bogging , hit kill switch, pull plugs and take some pics.
Need to know if it's rich, lean or ignition
You had about 0.014" points gap after you re-set timing?

BTW,
Everyone I've done a carb mod for in last 2 months
Can you check you have both vacuum plugs installed?
I found one and can't remember if I was using it for pattern to make a couple or if it was left out of a carb set when I sent them back

yup i set my points gap at 0.014 and checked my timing and from what i could tell it didnt change. should i get a clean new set of plugs before i take it for a ride and get these pictures? or try to clean off the plugs i have? and sorry for being retarded, but where are the two vacuum plugs?

Can't tell about those vacuum plug's, don't use the original carbs. ->PJ

You said you set the points gap at 0.014", mind you that's just a starting reference ehj, further adjust from that gap with a timing light, before adjusting the carb. Your iginition timing and cam timing should be spot-on before messing with the carbs (cleaned those with compressed air first?)
If your plugs are kinda recent, just clean them with a wire brush and check their electrode gap, better still use fresh spark plugs if you are doing carb-tuning.

Greetz

just run it, if they are black it's rich, if white, lean
I'll post pic of carb/plug location later

you got it, i am off to work, itll probably be tomorrow when i get the pictures up. thank you guys so much for helping me get this far, it should not be too much left now, just final tuning. althought i know trek has been doing final tuning for the last like year on his carbs haha, i guess everybody is always doing the "final tuning" lol

LET THE GAMES BEGIN...final tuning....forever! Ive said it before...On my bike, every ride is a test ride.
Actually i was kinda excited today...thinking bout doing a plug chop at 8000 rpm tonight! before I re-paint engine this weekend. I have another funeral to go to again this week...a close friend passed yesterday moring as I was getting in car to go to his house to show him the new rifle w scope installed. Sucks, I know he woulda loved to see it.

bummer man. its hard to see a friend go, we lost a close friend about 6 months ago. sorry to hear it.

Fatherjon,

Simply amazing. I CANNOT get over how much I like the rear cut you did on the hump of that seat. It just suits your build so well. Great, great looking bike.

Here's pic of left carb, right is similar
If it looks like this, plug is missing

Wow man, thank you so much. I totally get that feeling looking at other bikes, where I'm just like "I absolutly love the way that looks!" but I didn't really expect to be able to build something nice enough to where other people would ever think those kinds of things about my bike. I'm glad you like It as much as I do! Thanks again dude, means a lot to me
